4 cups pound or yellow cake chunks
1 cup fresh or frozen, thawed strawberries in syrup
4 ounces port wine
4 ounces cream sherry
8 large scoops rich vanilla ice cream or custard
1 cup fresh or frozen, thawed raspberries in syrup
1 1/2 - 2 cups heavy cream, whipped
1/4 cup toasted slivered almonds
8 maraschino cherries or chocolate covered cherries for garnish

Steps:

  • In 8 large brandy sniffers or a 2-quart clear glass bowl, layer ingredients in order given, and garnish with cherries. Chill about an hour to blend flavors.

Heavenly Cherry Angel Food Trifle image

5 cups angel food cake cubes
1/4 cup cherry liqueur, optional
1 cup powdered sugar
1 (3-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 (8-ounce) package frozen non-dairy whipped topping, thawed and divided
1/2 cup toasted chopped pecans
1 (21-ounce) can cherry filling or topping

Steps:

  • Place cake cubes in large bowl. Sprinkle with liqueur, if desired; let stand 30 minutes. In medium bowl, combine powdered sugar and cream cheese; beat until blended. Reserve 2 tablespoons whipped topping; fold remaining topping into cheese mixture. Stir topping mixture and pecans into cake cubes; mix well. Spoon cake mixture into a pretty glass or crystal bowl. Spread cherry filling evenly on top. (Or if desired, layer 1/2 cake mixture and cherry filling. Repeat layers.) Cover and refrigerate at least 3 hours. Garnish servings with reserved whipped topping.

1/2 bar German sweet chocolate
1/2 cup butter
3 eggs, beaten
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup flour
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

Steps:

  • Melt chocolate and butter in a small pan over low heat. Beat eggs with a whisk until light and foamy. Gradually beat in sugar, flour, and vanilla to eggs. Add butter/chocolate mixture. Pour into a well buttered 9-inch pie pan. Bake at 325-350° for 25-30 minutes. (Do not over-bake...will sink slightly in middle.) Serve warm or cold. Top with whipped cream and chocolate slivers. Freezes beautifully!

2 boxes or 24 Twinkie snack cakes
1 large box strawberry Jell-O
1 large package instant vanilla pudding
1 cup strawberry pie filling
1 medium-sized container whipped topping
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Steps:

  • Place all the Twinkies in a 9x13-inch pan (may have to squeeze them to fit). Mix Jell-O according to directions on package. Pour over Twinkies. Prepare pudding mix as directed on package. Pour over Jell-O. Spread pie filling over pudding. Top with whipped topping and sprinkle nuts over all. Chill at least 2 hours before serving. Even better to refrigerate overnight. Editor's Extra: Pudding comes in two sizes, small and large. Though ounces vary among brands, the small size is around 3 ounces, and the large around 6.
