TANGY MEMPHIS BBQ SAUCE

Sauce recipe slightly adapted from and with thanks to Cooking Light via Jenn's Food Journey

1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup white vinegar
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons yellow mustard
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

Steps:

  • Combine all the sauce ingredients in a small saucepan, over medium low heat. Stir to combine and bring to a simmer.
  • Simmer 10 minutes and then remove from the heat. Use immediately or pour into an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days. Enjoy!

1 cup mayonnaise
2/3 cup plain yogurt
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
Juice of one lemon
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 Tbsp ground black pepper
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

Steps:

  • In a medium-sized mixing bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise and yogurt. Whisk in the vinegar, lemon juice, garlic, and seasonings.
  • Taste and adjust to your liking, adding more vinegar or seasonings as needed.
  • Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours before using.

1 cup butter
1 onion, chopped
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 (15 ounce) cans tomato sauce
1 (28 ounce) bottle ketchup
¾ cup water
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar
½ lemon, juiced
salt and pepper to taste
1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce

Steps:

  • In a large skillet, melt the butter or margarine over medium heat. Stir in the onion and garlic powder. Saute until onions are soft. Stir in the tomato sauce, ketchup, water, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar and Season to taste with salt, pepper and hot pepper sauce. Reduce heat to low and simmer, uncovered, for 10 minutes.

1 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 teaspoons prepared mustard
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 to 1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
1 bay leaf
1 garlic clove, minced
1/2 cup water
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

Steps:

  • Combine all of the ingredients in a small saucepan; bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 30 minutes., Discard bay leaf. Use as a basting sauce when grilling chicken, pork or beef.
