17 TOO-CUTE TEACUP DOG BREEDS - READER’S DIGEST

- Pomeranian teacup. A bright-eyed, smiling, foxy face already makes a Pomeranian irresistibly cute. Underneath that posh exterior lies a bold and confident pooch.
- Maltese teacup. Who wouldn’t want to dote on this darling little angel? Regular size Maltese top out at about 7 pounds and seven to eight inches tall. Those strikingly big black eyes and gumdrop nose lure you into a puppy coma you never want to wake up from.
- Poodle teacup. Per the AKC, poodles come in three sizes—toy, miniature, and standard. The toy size is most likely to be the parent breed of a teacup because it is already pocket-size at 4 to 6 pounds and less than 10 inches tall.
- Yorkie teacup. This teacup variety comes from Yorkshire terrier parents. Even though Yorkies are actually classified as a toy breed and not a terrier by the AKC, they are true terriers at heart—independent, fearless, stubborn, and brave along with a heaping dose of face-licking and snuggling companionship.
- Shih Tzu. The Mandarin phrase “Shih Tzu” translates to ‘little lion,” a misnomer given the Shih Tzus register between 9 to 16 pounds and are just under 11 inches tall.
- Pug teacup. It’s just ridiculous how cute pugs are! The wrinkles, irresistible. The snorts and snoring, adorbs. Their chunky belly, cherubic. The standard pug is robust for a toy breed, at 14 to18 pounds but just over a foot tall.
- Chihuahua teacup. The Chihuahua’s saucy and brazen personality is well-known. Sure, they can be nippy and cranky, but gosh darn it, they are so tiny and have the sweetest eyes and face, and delightful long or short coats.
- Beagle teacup. If things are just too quiet and you’re craving a talkative, cheerful, and short-legged furry friend, the beagle might be the perfect match.
- French bulldog teacup. That precious wrinkled mug, comical bat ears, and robust and compact little body are so stinkin’ cute. It’s hard to refrain from not picking one up and snuggling their chunkiness.
- Papillon teacup. “I’m ready. Where’s the party?” These honey-pies always look like they are eager and ready to go with their feathery, perky ears and alert eyes.

- Pomeranian. Although today's Pomeranians have a reputation as lapdogs, they were originally bred to herd animals and pull sleds. Earlier versions of the Pomeranian breed weighed around 30 pounds.
- Poodle. Known for their intelligence, athleticism, and sociability, poodles make amazing family dogs. Teacup poodles usually weigh about 4 pounds, while their standard-sized counterparts weigh 45 to 70 pounds.
- Beagle. What they lack in size, teacup beagles make up for in friendliness and energy. Most of these beagles only weigh around 15 pounds, which is relatively large for a teacup dog.
- Maltese. Not only is the Maltese one of the world's oldest breeds—originating almost 3,000 years ago—but it also was considered royalty back in the day.
- Pomsky. As its name suggests, the Pomsky is the cross between a Siberian husky with a Pomeranian. Pomskies tend to vary in size depending on how much of each breed they have in them.
- Yorkshire Terrier. Yorkshire terriers were already popular dogs at their standard small size, so the teacup variety is a popular hit, too. These tiny dogs can weigh just 2 to 3 pounds, but they still have big-dog personalities.
- Bichon Frise. Bichon frise roughly translates to "curly lapdog" in French. And teacup bichons definitely live up to their name. They were bred to be loving companions that some people refer to as living stuffed animals.
- Chihuahua. Between starring in fast food commercials and being toted around in celebrities' purses, teacup Chihuahuas have had their share of fame. But it's not all glamour for these tiny dogs.
- Pug. Teacup pugs can be great apartment dogs. Their small stature (weighing around 3 to 7 pounds), chill demeanor, and low exercise needs make them ideal for small living spaces.
- Shih Tzu. Teacup shih tzus are generally regarded as divas of the dog world. But these canines are also incredibly athletic. Underneath their long, silky hair, shih tzus have quite muscular bodies and were built for agility courses.
