Ingredients

3 small chopped seeded tangerines or small oranges (no need to peel)
1/4 cup sugar
1 tablespoon grated peeled ginger
3/4 cup tangerine juice
1 1/2 cup cachaça (Brazilian sugarcane liquor) or vodka

Steps:

Divide tangerines or small oranges among 6 tumblers. Add 2 teaspoons sugar and 1/2 teaspoon grated peeled ginger to each glass. Crush the ingredients in the bottom of the glass with a muddler or handle of a wooden spoon. Top each drink with 2 tablespoons tangerine juice and 1/4 cup cachaa (Brazilian sugarcane liquor) or vodka. Fill glasses with ice cubes, stir, and serve.

1/2 lime, cut into quarters
2 tablespoons sugar
1 slice peeled fresh ginger
Crushed ice
2 ounces cachaca
Sugar cane stick, for garnish

Steps:

Add lime quarters, sugar, ginger, and ice to a mixing glass or cocktail shaker; muddle well.
Fill an 8-ounce glass 3/4 full with crushed ice. Add the cachaca.
Pour the muddled mixture into glass with cachaca. Stir well to make sure sugar dissolves completely. Garnish with sugar cane stick.

A Sangria that's great all year round. Time does not include making the simple syrup - double it to use in other cocktails or to serve in ice tea or lemonade.

Ingredients

1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1/2 cup fresh ginger, chopped
3 tangerines (more, for garnish)
1/3 cup of fresh mint (more, for garnish)
1 (750 ml) bottle sake (nigori)
1/4 cup sugar, for rim

Steps:

Simple syrup:.
Bring 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water to a boil in a saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar.
Add 1/2 cup of fresh, chopped ginger. Remove from heat, and let steep 30 minutes.
Pour syrup through a fine sieve into a heat resistant container; discard ginger. Chill in the refrigerator. If you made extra, just store it in an airtight container for up to a week.
Sangria:.
Thinly slice 3 tangerines and add them to a pitcher.
Add 1/3 cup of fresh mint leaves to a glass with barely enough sake to cover and mull them.
Add the mulled mint and the remaining sake to the pitcher.
Add the chilled ginger syrup to the pitcher and mix well. You can add extra mint to look pretty.
For each glass wipe the rim of the glass with a tangerine slice and then twist the wet rimmed glass in the sugar.
Add sangria to glass and garnish with tangerine slice and mint.
