This is a delicious vodka slush served with lemon-flavored soda. This can be served at parties while the rest are drinking beer!

9 cups water
2 (10 ounce) cans frozen strawberry daiquiri mixer
2 cups white sugar
2 cups vodka
1 (12 fluid ounce) can frozen orange juice concentrate
2 (10 ounce) packages frozen strawberries, thawed
4 liters lemon-lime flavored carbonated beverage

Steps:

  • Bring a large pot of water and sugar to boil. Cool. Stir in daiquiri mix, vodka, orange juice and strawberries. Transfer mixture to a freezer-safe container, and freeze until mixture is to your desired consistency.
  • To serve: Pour into a chilled glass, approximately 2/3 cup of the slush mixture and 1/3 cup of lemon-lime soda. Delicious.

I got this out of an old fashioned cookbook from my Great Grandmother, and the description says; "Flummer, Fool, Grunt, Slump, and Buckle were variations of old English puddings made with fruit. They were also common in early America" I will post 3 of the five variations

1 pint fresh strawberry
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup flour
4 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup butter
2 tablespoons sour milk

Steps:

  • In a medium sauce pan mix water with sugar and lemon juice.
  • Bring to a boil.
  • Add strawberries. Cover, reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes.
  • In a mixing bowl combine flour, the 4 Tbsps. sugar, baking soda, and salt.
  • Cut in butter with a pastry blender.
  • Stir in sour milk with a fork till ingredients are just moistened. Drop by teaspoonfull into the simmering strawberry liquid.
  • Cover and let simmer about 12 minutes. (Do NOT lift cover.)
  • Serve wit thick cream or ice cream.

Steps:

  • Wash the strawberries and remove the green stems.
  • Cut the strawberries and place them in a bowl.
  • Toss them with the sugar and cover the bowl with plastic wrap and place it in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours and even overnight.
  • The sugar will draw moisture out of the berries and naturally make a sweet strawberry syrup.

100g butter , softened, plus extra for greasing
100g caster sugar , plus 2 tbsp extra
100g self-raising flour
2 eggs
1 tbsp milk
vanilla extract
200g mixed summer berries
25g flaked almonds

Steps:

  • In a food processor, whizz together the butter, 100g sugar, flour, eggs, milk and 1 tsp vanilla extract until smooth. lightly grease an oval 20 x 30cm baking dish or 20cm deep cake tin, then tip in the frozen fruit. Scatter over the remaining sugar and vanilla extract. Dollop over the cake mix, then smooth all over with the back of a spoon to cover the fruit. Make a little dip in the middle of the mixture to ensure it cooks evenly throughout. Scatter over the almonds.
  • Heat oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4. Cook for 45 mins until the fruit is hot and the sponge is cooked through. Serve warm with custard or vanilla ice cream.

4 cups fresh strawberries
2 cups fat-free vanilla ice cream, softened
1 package (.3 ounces) sugar-free strawberry gelatin
1/2 cup boiling water
2 teaspoons lemon juice
2 liters diet lemon-lime soda, chilled
Additional fresh strawberries, optional

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, mash strawberries; add ice cream. In a small bowl, dissolve gelatin in water; stir in lemon juice. Add to the strawberry mixture and mix well. Pour into a 1-1/2-qt. freezer container; cover and freeze overnight. , Remove from the freezer 15 minutes before serving. Spoon into glasses; add soda. Garnish with strawberries if desired.

1 cup sugar
1 cup water
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
2 pints strawberries, hulled and sliced

Steps:

  • In a saucepan, stir together the sugar and water. Bring to a boil, and cook for about 10 minutes, or until it becomes syrupy. Mix in the nutmeg and cinnamon, and remove from the heat. Stir in the vanilla. Allow to cool for a few minutes, then pour over sliced strawberries.
