Spicy Grapefruit Margaritas image

These sweet and spicy grapefruit margaritas are so refreshing! You can leave out the jalapeño if you want a basic, fresh grapefruit margarita, but I love the kick that the pepper provides. Recipe below yields one drink, so multiply as necessary.

1 ounce fresh lime juice (about 1 large lime, juiced)
1 teaspoon light agave nectar or 2 teaspoons simple syrup
1 thinly sliced jalapeño round (1/8th to 1/4th inch wide, a little goes a long way!)
2 ounces grapefruit juice (about 1/2 large grapefruit, juiced)
1 1/2 ounces 100% agave blanco/silver or reposado tequila
3 parts kosher salt
1 part ancho chili powder or regular chili powder
Lime wedges
Small grapefruit wedges for garnish, optional

Steps:

  • First, prepare your glasses. Mix together the salt and chili on a small, rimmed plate. Run a lime wedge around the outer top edge of your glasses, then roll the edges in the chili-salt so it sticks. Place one big ice cube or a few smaller ice cubes in each glass.
  • In a cocktail shaker or mason jar, add the lime juice, agave nectar and jalapeño slice. Use a muddler to crush the jalapeño. Pour in the grapefruit juice and tequila, then top off the shaker with ice. Fasten the lid on securely and shake well.
  • Strain the mixture into your prepared glasses. If you want to be cute about it, garnish the drinks with a small wedge of grapefruit, sliced halfway through the middle so it rests on your glass. Cheers!

A spicy twist on a an old favorite.. grapefruit margarita!

1/2 C. honey
1/2 C. water
1/4 - 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper depending on your taste
3 shots of fresh grapefruit juice
1 shot of tequila
1 shot of honey + cayenne simple syrup
1 shot of Cointreau
2 small slices of jalepeño (optional)
*Optional - Margarita salt mixed with a tad of cayenne to salt rim

Steps:

  • Combine honey, water and cayenne pepper in a saucepan and bring to simmer. Cool in fridge.
  • In a shaker add grapefruit juice, honey, cayenne syrup, Cointreau, jalepñeo slices & ice.
  • Shake away!
  • Strain over ice and garnish with a lime or jalepeño slice.

1/3 C. honey syrup*
1/3 C. freshly squeezed lime juice (about 4 limes)
1/3 C. freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
1 shot of tequila

Steps:

  • Pour all of the above into a shaker with some ice and shake
  • Pour over a glass loaded with ice
  • A salty rim if you like, and enjoy!
  • *To make the honey syrup, combine equal parts honey and water into a sauce pan and heat until it's hot and dissolved. Chill before using.

1 tablespoon clover or orange-blossom honey
1 tablespoon very hot water (from the tap)
2 ounces blanco tequila
1 strip peeled pink grapefruit rind plus 2 ounces fresh juice
3/4 ounce fresh lime juice

Steps:

  • In the bottom of a cocktail shaker, stir honey with 1 tablespoon very hot water (from the tap) until dissolved. Fill shaker halfway with ice and top with tequila, grapefruit juice, and lime juice. Shake vigorously until outside of shaker is cold and frosty, about 10 seconds.
  • Strain into a tall, narrow glass, such as a Collins, filled with crushed ice. Stir with a swizzle stick or straw until glass turns frosty, about 10 seconds. Garnish with grapefruit rind; serve immediately.

  • In a bowl, combine the chili power salt and sugar. Mix well to combine. Use this mixture to rim your glasses.
