SPICY GARLIC EDAMAME RECIPE
Raw garlic is loaded with antioxidants and healing properties, adding extra nutrients to this Japanese restaurant staple. The key to this recipe is to let the pressed raw garlic marinate in the toasted sesame oil while cooking the edamame to let the flavors come together. The raw garlic is naturally spicy and infuses all of its goodness into the oil, and the chili flakes amp up the spiciness even more. Between the kick from the raw garlic, the rich flavor of the toasted sesame seeds, and heat from the chili flakes, this punchy Japanese snack is a party in your mouth. (There ain't no party like a soybean party, right?) You can also make this recipe with shelled edamame; both are delicious. This easy recipe of spicy garlic edamame is excellent as a snack, appetizer, or side dish. If you loved this treat, please leave a star rating and comment below to share with our community!

SWEET AND SPICY EDAMAME
This great healthy snack is full of protein that will satisfy that salty craving without the guilt. I serve this as an appetizer, as a snack, or as a meal on its own. It's simple, easy and everyone loves it. I choose to microwave the edamame because it is easy, but boiling or steaming will both work.

KEIKO'S SPICY DYNAMITE EDAMAME
From Keiko O' Aoki's "Easy and Healthy Japanese Food for the American Kitchen." According to the book, this is a great party food that pairs perfectly with wine and beer. DH and I tried this last night while making sushi. We really enjoyed it and agreed it would make a great party appetizer. It was also really easy! We used canola oil and frozen edamame, microwaved per the package's directions.

SWEET AND SPICY SOY GLAZED EDAMAME
Provided by Chris Cockren
Number Of Ingredients 9
Steps:
- Cook the edamame according to package directions.
- In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, water, rice vinegar, brown sugar, and red pepper flakes.
- Heat canola oil in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Once heated, add the garlic and ginger. Let cook for one to two minutes, stirring to avoid garlic from burning.
- Add in the soy sauce mixture and raise the heat to medium. Let cook, stirring frequently, until the sauce reduces to a glaze, about 5-7 minutes. Once you reach the desired glaze consistency, add in the cooked edamame and toss well.
- Use tongs to plate edamame. Pour any glaze left in the saucepan into a small dipping bowl alongside the edamame. Devour immediately.
- *I've made this without rice vinegar when I looked in the pantry and we didn't have any. It still came out great.
- **If you have a micrograter, you can grate the garlic and ginger if you want. That way it it dissolves into the glaze instead of having little finely minced chunks. If you try it this way, only cook the ginger and garlic for about 30 seconds. I've done it both ways. Totally your call, just wanted to give you the option ????
SPICY EDAMAME DIP
Steps:
- In a medium skillet over medium heat, roast the garlic, turning frequently, until light brown, about 15 minutes. Remove from the heat, cool, and then slip off the skins. Set aside.
- Bring about 8 cups of water to a boil in a saucepan and drop in the beans. Bring back to a boil and cook for 5 minutes. Reserve 3/4 cup of the cooking water before draining. Drain the beans and cool.
- Transfer the garlic into a food processor and chop coarsely. Add the beans, cayenne pepper, cumin, salt, pepper and process in the food processor. Add the olive oil, lime juice and cilantro and pulse to combine. Add the reserved water a little at a time while processing until smooth (you may not need to add all of the water). Use pita chips for dipping.

- Place the edamame in a bowl. Add the toasted sesame oil and salt, then grate the garlic clove into the bowl (using a microplane). Toss gently until everything is evenly coated, breaking up any clumps of the garlic that stick together. Add the chili garlic sauce, starting with less and gradually adding more to taste (we used about 1 tablespoon). Transfer to a serving bowl and serve warm, with a smaller bowl for the discarded pods.
