5 C peeled and sliced green cooking apples
1/2 tsp. cinnamon sugar
1 tsp. grated lemon rind
1 teaspoon grated orange rind
1 jigger Grand Marnier
1 jigger Amaretto
3/4 C granulated sugar
1/4 C light brown sugar
3/4 C sifted flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 C butter
3/4 cup toasted (chopped walnuts)
Whipping cream or ice cream for topping (optional)

Steps:

  • Arrange apple slices in greased 2 quart round casserole.
  • Sprinkle cinnamon, lemon and orange rinds and both liqueurs on top of apples.
  • In a separate bowl, mix sugars, flour, salt and butter with a pastry blender or in a processor until crumbly; add the chopped walnuts..
  • Spread mixture over top of apples.
  • Bake uncovered at 350 degrees until apples are tender and top is lightly browned, approximately 1 hour.
  • Serve warm with cream, whipped cream or with vanilla or cinnamon ice cream.

1 cup sifted all-purpose flour

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease an 8-inch square baking dish.
  • Arrange apple slices evenly in prepared baking dish. Sift flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl. Cut in butter using a pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture resembles coarse cornmeal; sprinkle over apples.

Lately I like to experiment with different flavors and put things together that you would not think to put together because the recipe you have is tried and true. Things that you would not actually think of doing. I see a lot of recipes on JAP and I think I bet that would taste really good like this. Anything that makes life easier I say go for it. I love working with cake mixes for crust and toppings so I decided to try a cake mix with apple crisp. Spice cake sounded good. I went to the store and brought the apples and I saw honeycrisp apples there and thought yeah lets add some honey to this topping also. The results were amazing and if you try it you will love it if you like apple crisp. Be sure to make a lot because mine disappeared.

6 - granny smith apples
6 - any sweet apple you would like to use. i use golden delicious
2 cup(s) raisins
1/2 stick(s) butter cut into small chunks
1/2 cup(s) brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon(s) cinnamon
TOPPING
1 - spice cake mix
3 cup(s) oatmeal
1 cup(s) crushed walnuts
1/2 cup(s) honey
1 stick(s) butter
10 - caramels cut in half (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Peel and slice apples so that the slices are close to the same size. Add raisins and the brown sugar and the cinnamon and toss.
  • Pour apples and raisins into a 9x12 pan. Take the pieces of butter and place on top of the apples.
  • Mix together the spice cake and the oatmeal and the crushed walnuts.
  • Melt the butter in the microwave and add the butter and honey to the oatmeal mixture. Sprinkle over the apples, then place caramels on topping. Bake for 45 minutes until apples are cooked and the top is crisp.

  • 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Butter and flour a 12-cup bundt pan.
