SPAGHETTI SAUCE

Spaghetti Sauce image

Provided by Ree Drummond : Food Network

Time 2h15m

Yield 12 servings

Number Of Ingredients 20

5 pounds ground beef (I used ground round)
3 tablespoons olive oil
2 large yellow onions, diced
6 cloves garlic, minced
Two 28-ounce cans crushed tomatoes
One 14-ounce can crushed tomatoes
One 6-ounce can tomato paste
1 jar good store-bought marinara sauce (you can use another jar if you like the sauce to be more saucy than meaty)
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 teaspoon ground oregano
1 teaspoon ground thyme
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper, optional
4 bay leaves
1/4 cup finely minced fresh parsley or 3 tablespoons parsley flakes, plus more for serving
8 fresh basil leaves, chopped
1 whole rind from 1 wedge Parmesan, optional
1/2 cup grated Parmesan, optional, plus more for serving
2 pounds spaghetti, cooked al dente and tossed with olive oil, for serving
Garlic-cheese bread, for serving

Steps:

  • In a large pot over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef until totally browned. Remove the meat from the pot with a slotted spoon and put into a bowl. Set aside.
  • Discard any grease in the pot, but do not clean the pot. Drizzle in the olive oil. When it is heated, throw in the diced onions. Stir it around for 1 1/2 minutes, and then add the garlic. Stir and cook for an additional minute.
  • Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste and marinara sauce. Stir to combine, and then add the sugar, salt, oregano, thyme, crushed red pepper (if using) and bay leaves. Stir, then add the cooked ground beef and stir to combine. Place the lid on the pot and allow to simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Add a little water or some low-sodium broth if it needs more liquid.
  • After an hour, add the minced parsley, basil and the Parmesan rind if using (or grated Parmesan if you prefer--or both!). Stir to combine, and then put the lid back on and allow it to simmer for another 30 minutes or so. Discard the bay leaves before serving.
  • Serve a big bowl of oiled noodles and the spaghetti sauce so guests can serve themselves. Top each serving with minced parsley and grated Parmesan (or Parmesan shavings) and serve with a big piece of garlic-cheese bread.
  • Amen.

THE BEST HOMEMADE SPAGHETTI SAUCE EVER. PERIOD.

The Best Homemade Spaghetti Sauce Ever. Period. image

When I found my Taste of Home magazine in my mailbox, I was excited to try this slow cooker recipe for "Stamp of Approval Spaghetti Sauce" Orginally submitted by Melissa Taylor of Higley AZ. This sauce is the best stuff I have ever tasted- there is no comparison in taste between store bought and this! Everyone that I made it for, my hubby, son, sister, mom and dad loved it and I (shamefully) ate 2 bowls full of plain sauce before serving! Just try it. Notice- It makes a BIG crock pot full of sauce!

SOUTH FLORIDA STYLE SPAGHETTI SAUCE

South Florida Style Spaghetti Sauce image

My son does not like mushrooms but with the li'l chopper I was able to sneak them in...and he said Mom, this sauce is awesome!

Provided by South Fla Sassy Chef

Categories     Sauces

Time 3h

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 15

2 (8 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
1 (8 ounce) can italian style chunky tomatoes
2 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
4 tablespoons minced garlic
1 teaspoon garlic juice (from jar)
2 teaspoons fresh basil
2 teaspoons italian seasoning
1 tablespoon sugar
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
7 -8 fresh mushrooms (fresh & cleaned or if you prefer to use canned its up to you)
1/2 cup diced green pepper
1/2 cup diced red pepper
1/2 cup vidalia onion
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper

Steps:

  • For a chunkier sauce I suggest not using the blender but as I have discriminating tastes in my family I used a blender for the diced tomatoes and italian diced tomatoes.
  • Combine blended tomatoes, tomato paste 2 tbsp of the minced garlic, fresh basil, italian seasoning and sugar in a large pot - mix together and begin to simmer on low
  • Take the other 2 tbsp of garlic, garlic juice, oil, mushroom, green & red pepper, onion and sautee lightly before adding them to the sauce. (Again because of discriminating tastes I used a chopper to chop these into small bits prior to sautee). Combine and let simmer for 1-2 hours then serve over spaghetti I have also used this sauce for my lasagne minus the peppers.
  • I always taste things going in and if I need more or less of an ingredient I play with it as I let it simmer on the stove for 1 to 2 hours before serving. I also freeze any leftover sauce for next time being that there is only three of us.
