6-7 large Honeycrisp apples (or other sweet apple such as Cortland), peeled, cored, and diced
¾ cup pure pumpkin puree
2 tablespoons 100 percent pure maple syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon lemon juice
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
⅛ tsp ground ginger
⅛ tsp nutmeg
¼ teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Place the peeled, diced apples in a slow cooker set to high heat. Cover, stirring occasionally. Cook for about 3 hours, or until apples are cooked down to a thick, sauce-like consistency.
  • Reduce the heat to low. Add all of the remaining ingredients (pumpkin puree, maple syrup, vanilla extract, lemon juice, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and salt) and stir until well combined. Cover and cook about 20-25 minutes longer.
  • Place the peeled, diced apples in a slow cooker set to low heat. Cover, stirring occasionally. Cook for about 7½ hours, or until apples are cooked down to a thick, sauce-like consistency.
  • With the heat still set to low, add all of the remaining ingredients (pumpkin puree, maple syrup, vanilla extract, lemon juice, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and salt) and stir until well combined. Cover and cook about 20-25 minutes longer.

8 medium sized Gala Apples (4 pounds before peeling and coring)
15 oz. can pumpkin puree
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/8 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 cup apple juice or water
brown sugar to taste (add at the end, I used a half cup)

Steps:

  • Peel, core and slice the apples. Add the apples to the slow cooker.
  • Add the can of pumpkin puree, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, vanilla and apple juice.
  • Stir.
  • Cover and cook on high for 5 hours or low for 8 hours.
  • When the cooking time is done stir with a whisk until the desired smoothness is desired. Add brown sugar to taste, I used a half cup of brown sugar.
  • Store leftovers in fridge or freezer. This is not a canning recipe.

Steps:

  • Combine the apples and water in a slow cooker; cook on Low for 6 to 8 hours. Stir in the brown sugar and pumpkin pie spice; continue cooking another 30 minutes.

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients in a slow cooker; stir to mix.
  • Cover and cook on low setting for 8 to 10 hours, or on high setting for 3 to 4 hours.
  • When done, stir with a wooden spoon. Gently crush applesauce against side of slow cooker to desired consistency.
