1 bag dried navy beans, soaked overnight
One 6-ounce can tomato puree
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1 tablespoon dry mustard
8 slices bacon, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 large onion, diced
1/4 cup cider vinegar
Kosher salt

Steps:

  • Drain the beans, cover with fresh water and bring to a boil. Simmer for about 1 hour.
  • Drain and rinse the beans, then transfer them to a slow cooker insert. Add the tomato puree, brown sugar, molasses, dry mustard, bacon, onion and 1 1/2 cups water and stir to combine. Cook on low until the sauce is thick and syrupy, 8 to 10 hours.
  • Before serving, stir in the cider vinegar and season to taste with salt.

1 pound dry great Northern beans
8 cups water
4 ounces diced salt pork
1 cup chopped onion
½ cup molasses
⅓ cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon dry mustard
⅛ teaspoon ground black pepper

Steps:

  • The night before, combine the Great Northern Beans and water in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil, and cook for 1 1/2 hours. Pour beans and their liquid into a bowl, cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • In the morning, drain off liquid, reserving 1 cup. Pour beans and the reserved liquid into the crock of a slow cooker. Stir in the salt pork, onion, molasses, brown sugar, mustard and pepper. Cover, and cook on Low for 12 to 14 hours. Stir before serving.

2 cups water
1/2 cup dark molasses
5 slices salt pork belly (about 3 ounces), cut into 1/2-inch pieces
1 small onion, finely chopped

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 (15 ounce) cans pork and beans
1 (16 ounce) can kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 (15 ounce) can lima beans, rinsed and drained
1 onion, chopped
½ cup packed brown sugar
½ cup ketchup
½ teaspoon dry mustard
4 strips cooked bacon, crumbled

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 2 1/2-quart baking dish.
  • Combine pork and beans, kidney beans, lima beans, onion, brown sugar, ketchup, and dry mustard together in a bowl; transfer to the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle bacon over bean mixture. Cover dish with aluminum foil.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Remove aluminum foil and continue baking until bubbling, about 30 minutes more.

3 cups dried navy beans
4 quarts cold water, divided
1 medium onion, chopped
1 cup ketchup
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons molasses
1 tablespoon salt
2 teaspoons ground mustard
1/4 pound bacon, cooked and crumbled

  • Place beans in a Dutch oven with 2 qts. water. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand for 1 hour. , Drain and rinse. Return beans to Dutch oven; add remaining water. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 1 hour or until the beans are almost tender. 1 cup brewed coffee
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup spicy brown mustard
2 tablespoons molasses
2 cans (16 ounces each) butter beans
2 cans (16 ounces each) kidney beans
2 cans (16 ounces each) navy beans

Steps:

  • In a greased 3- or 4-qt. slow cooker, mix first 4 ingredients. Rinse and drain beans; stir into coffee mixture. Cook, covered, on low until flavors are blended, 4-5 hours. Freeze option: Freeze cooled beans in freezer containers. To use, partially thaw in refrigerator overnight. Heat through in a covered saucepan, stirring occasionally; add water if necessary.

24 ounces dried navy beans
1 onion, chopped
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup maple syrup
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup water
1/2 cup ketchup
2 tablespoons prepared mustard
1 lb ham hock (optional)

Steps:

  • In a large pot over high heat, combine the beans with water to cover and bring to a boil for 10 minutes. Remove from heat, but let sit for 1 hour.
  • Drain beans and place them in a slow cooker. (If using ham hocks, add now.)
  • Add the onion, brown sugar, maple syrup, salt and water.
  • Mix well, cover and cook on high setting for 4-5 hours, stirring occasionally.
  • During the final hour of cooking, add the ketchup and mustard (if you used ham hocks, remove the ham from the hocks and discard the hocks.).
  • Mix well and serve.

4 ounces salt pork, trimmed of rind and cut into 1/2 pieces 2 ounces bacon, cut into 1/4 pieces (about 2 slices)
1 medium onion, chopped fine
1/2 cup mild molasses, plus
1 tablespoon mild molasses
1 1/2 tablespoons brown mustard
1 lb small dried white bean, rinsed and picked over (but NOT SOAKED or boiled at all... just dry beans)
9 cups water
salt
1 teaspoon cider vinegar
ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Adjust oven rack to lower-middle position; heat oven to 300 degrees.
  • Add salt pork and bacon to 8-quart Dutch oven; cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until lightly browned and most fat is rendered, about 7 minutes.
  • Add onion and continue to cook stirring occasionally, until onion is softened, about 8 minutes.
  • Add 1/2 cup molasses, mustard, beans, 1 1/4 teaspoons salt, and 9 cups water; increase heat to medium-high and bring to boil; cover pot and set in oven.
  • Bake until beans are tender, about 4 hours, stirring once after 2 hours.
  • Remove lid and continue to bake until liquid has thickened to syrupy consistency, 1 to 1 1/2 hours longer.
  • Remove beans from oven; stir in remaining tablespoon of molasses, vinegar, and additional salt and pepper to taste.

1 lb 85% lean ground beef
4 (15 7/8 ounce) cans great northern beans
2 cups ketchup
1/2 cup hickory flavored barbecue sauce
1/2 cup granulated brown sugar
1 cup onion
1/2 cup green pepper
1/4 cup red pepper
7 slices bacon
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon honey
1 1/2 teaspoons dry mustard
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 cup water (If using the crock pot. If using the oven omit this step)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees (F) instructions for conventional oven.
  • Finely chop the onions, green peppers and red peppers.
  • drizzle olive oil in large deep skillet.
  • add the chopped vegetables and saute until slightly softened.
  • add the 85% lean ground beef to the slightly sauteed veggies and brown until no longer pink set aside.
  • slightly fry the 4 slices of bacon until it slightly starts to brown set aside.
  • in a large bowl add ketchup, hickory barbecue sauce, granulated brown sugar, dry ground mustard, 2 tablespoons honey and mix together well.
  • open the 4 cans of Great Northern Beans and rinse well.
  • Place all 4 cans in a 9 x 13 in baking dish.
  • Take the 85% lean ground beef mixture and mix well into the beans.
  • Pour the Ketchup mixture into the beans and mix well making sure all the beans and meat are covered with the saucesmall amount of bacon drippings (it should only be a small amount).
  • drizzle the remaining 1 tablespoon of honey over the top.
  • top with remaining 3 strips of bacon.
  • Cook at 300 degrees for 2 hours.
  • Remove bacon before serving.
  • If cooking in the crock pot follow steps for cooking the veggie mixture, meat mixture.
  • Cook bacon as directed above.
  • mix sauce as directed above.
  • Place the meat and veggie mixture and the ketchup mixture in the crock pot and mix well.
  • Place the remaining bacon on top of the beans and drizzle the bacon drippings.
  • Drizzle the remaining 1 tablespoon of honey.
  • add the 1/4 cup water.
  • Cover the crock pot and cook on low for 5-6 hours and 3-4 hours on low.
