This dish is easy to prepare, even kids like it. It's a family favourite since a long time.My aunt in Germany created it a long time ago.

500 g cabbage
1/2 onion
oil
300 g ground beef
salt and pepper
1 bay leaf
2 carrots, washed,peeled and grated

Steps:

  • Wash cabbage, core and cut in fine stripes.
  • Dice onions and fry in hot oil until see through.
  • Add ground beef and fry until cooked through.
  • Season to taste.
  • Add cabbage, bay leaf, carrots and some more seasoning.
  • Let simmer until cabbage is cooked, remove bay leaf.
  • Season again if necessary.
  • Serve with crusty rolls, rye bread, rice or potatoes.

1 tablespoon oil
4 garlic cloves, crushed
1 lb flank steak, sliced into thin strips
1 lb small mushroom, sliced (button, shitake or mix)
4 cups shredded green cabbage
1 cup sliced onion
2 tablespoons beef broth
3/4 cup beef broth
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon pepper
salt, to taste

Steps:

  • In a small bowl whisk together the 3/4 cup beef broth, cornstarch, soy sauce, ginger, sugar, pepper and optional salt; SET ASIDE.
  • In a large skillet or wok, heat oil until hot. Add the flank steak and crushed garlic cloves; saute until almost cooked, about 2 to 3 minutes; remove and set aside.
  • To the hot empty skillet/wok, add the mushrooms, cabbage, sliced onion, and 2 tablespoons beef broth. Cook and stir until tender-crisp, about 4-6 minutes.
  • Pour the set aside soysauce mixture into the skillet with the veggie mixture and cook; stir until thickened, about 2 minutes.
  • Stir in the set aside beef and heat through.

1 (11 ounce) can mandarin oranges, drained
1 (8 ounce) can sliced water chestnuts, drained
4 teaspoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons white vinegar
1 tablespoon soy sauce
2 teaspoons cornstarch, dissolved in
1/4 cup water
1 1/2 cups chicken broth or 1 1/2 cups chicken stock
1 1/2 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts, trimmed and fileted
cooked rice or Asian noodles

Steps:

  • In a small saucepan, combine first 6 ingredients and begin cooking over low heat, stirring occasionally.
  • Meanwhile, in a large skillet, bring the broth to a gentle simmer.
  • Place chicken in the skillet, cover and simmer over medium-low heat for 8-10 minutes or until cooked completely.
  • By now, the sauce should be clear and thickened and ready to spoon over the chicken.

This says it makes 24 skewers, but I have difficulty believing that one pound of meat can go that far! Therefore, the number of servings here is a guess.

1 (16 ounce) can pineapple chunks
1 lb sirloin beef, cut in slices
1/3 cup soya sauce
1 garlic clove, minced
12 olives (specifies stuffed)
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

Steps:

  • Drain the juice from the pineapple and mix with the soya sauce, garlic and ginger; add the beef and let it stand for 1 hour.
  • Place alternate pieces of beef and pineapple on wooden skewers and put an olive at the end of each skewer.

Steps:

  • In a bowl mix shrimp, garlic, onion, chestnuts and mushrooms.

1 lb fresh chestnuts
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 large onion, thinly sliced
1 (2 lb) head red cabbage, cored,thinly sliced
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
6 tablespoons water
3 tablespoons sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Using small knife, cut an X in each chestnut.
  • Place in roasting pan.
  • Bake until shells loosen, about 35 minutes.
  • Cool slightly.
  • Remove hard shell and brown skin from each nut.
  • Set aside.
  • Heat oil in large pot over medium-low heat.
  • Add onion; sauté until soft, about 5 minutes.
  • Add cabbage, vinegar, water and sugar.
