This is the recipe my MIL gave me years ago for Simmering Potpourri. Use it for a delightful way to freshen the air. Usually used around the holidays.

Yield 8 cups

Number Of Ingredients 14

Ingredients

1/2 cup orrisroot chips
15 drops cinnamon oil
10 drops clove oil
5 drops orange oil
1 cup broken cinnamon stick
1 cup whole allspice
1 cup dried orange peel
1 cup bay leaf
1 cup coriander
1 cup mint
1/2 cup whole cloves
1/2 cup star anise
1/2 cup pine needles
1/2 cup rosemary

Steps:

Combine first 4 ingredients in small bowl.
Combine next 10 ingredients in large bowl.
Stir two mixtures together.
To scent air, put 1/3 of the potpourri mixture in 4 cups of water, boil, reduce heat and simmer.
Add water as needed.

Vanilla Chai. Use the above recipe for Orange Chai, but replace oranges with: Dried, spent vanilla bean pods from making your own vanilla. Or use a splash or two of vanilla extract.
Apple Pie. 4-8 dehydrated apple slices or a handful of dried apple chunks. 1-2 Cinnamon sticks. A few whole cloves or 1 teaspoon ground cloves. 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg.
Fall. A few dried apple slices. A few dried orange slices. 1-2 cinnamon sticks. 3-4 star anise pods.
Thanksgiving. 2 tablespoons poultry seasoning (sage, thyme, marjoram, rosemary, nutmeg and pepper) 3 tablespoons dried onions. 3 tablespoons dried celery.
