Sauteed green beans with onion - one of my favorite fresh green bean recipes. Also good with bacon or slivered almonds.

Steps:
- Fill a stockpot with water and bring to a boil over high heat. Add green beans and 1 pinch salt; boil until tender, 5 to 10 minutes. Drain beans in a colander and rinse with cold water. Blot dry using paper towels.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook and stir onion and shallot in the hot oil until tender and translucent, 5 to 7 minutes. Add green beans, garlic salt, soy sauce, salt, and pepper. Cook and stir for 5 to 7 minutes more. Serve immediately.

SAUTEED GREEN BEANS WITH ONIONS
Warm green beans sauteed with onions, cayenne pepper, and extra virgin olive oil until they are tender and crispy makes a healthy and flavorful side dish that will compliment any meat or poultry.

Steps:
- Heat olive oil in a large non-stick skillet and on moderate heat. Add the onions and sauté, stirring often, until they are golden, and caramelized about 5 to 8 minutes.
- Add string beans (while still wet).
- Add cayenne pepper. Cover the pan and lower the heat to simmer. This will also steam the beans while simmering.
- Cook for 10 to 12 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add salt, fresh cracked pepper, and garlic powder to taste.
- Taste the beans for tenderness, then remove and transfer to a bowl. Serve.
- Serves 4
GREEN BEANS WITH SAUTEED ONIONS AND CRUNCHY ZA'ATAR BREADCRUMBS RECIPE
Steps:
- Gather the ingredients.
- Trim the ends of the green beans and add to a pot of boiling water. Cook on high heat for approximately 10 minutes or until the beans are fork tender. Drain.
- While the beans are cooking, Add 2 tablespoons of the olive oil to a skillet or cast iron pan along with the peeled and sliced onions. Saute for about 10 minutes until the onions are lightly caramelized.
- When the onions are done, remove from the pan and add to the cooked and drained green beans. Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of olive oil to the pan along with the breadcrumbs and za'atar. Saute for about 2 minutes, stirring often, until lightly browned.
- Toss the green beans and onions with the breadcrumbs and season with salt and pepper to taste.

- In a saute pan with straight sides or a medium pot, add the olive oil and raise the heat to medium-high. Add the onions and season with a pinch of salt and grind or 2 of pepper. Cook the onions, stirring and moving around, until tender and translucent, about 4 minutes. Add the garlic and lower the heat. Continue cooking until fragrant and tender, about 2 minutes. Add the string beans and season with salt and pepper. Stir to coat, and then add the chicken stock. Raise the heat to a simmer and cover. Cook until the green beans are very tender, about 25 minutes. - Snap and boil green beans for at least 2 hours, or until beans are very tender.
- Sauté onions in oil in large skillet over medium heat for 5-10 minutes or until tender.
- Add green beans and white wine to onions. Sauté for about 5 minutes.
- Add mustard, salt, pepper, and bread crumbs. Simmer over low heat and stir until bread crumbs are cooked through.
- Serve and enjoy!

- Preheat oven to 450°F. Spray 2 heavy large baking sheets with vegetable oil spray. Arrange onions in single layer on prepared sheets.
- Dot onions with 4 tablespoons butter, dividing equally. Season with salt and pepper. Bake until onions are dark brown on bottom, about 35 minutes.
- Meanwhile, boil broth in heavy large skillet over high heat until reduced to 1/2 cup, about 6 minutes. Add sugar and vinegar and whisk until sugar dissolves and mixture comes to boil.
- Add onions to sauce; reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer until liquid is slightly reduced, about 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. (Can be prepared 1 day ahead. Cover and refrigerate. Rewarm over low heat before continuing.)

- Cook beans in boiling water for 4 minutes or until crisp-tender.
- Rinse with cold water; drain and pat dry.
- Cook bacon in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until crisp.
- Remove bacon from pan, reserving 2 tablespoons drippings in pan.
- Crumble bacon and set aside.
