Radish Chutney is a North-Indian side dish. The main ingredients used to prepare this chutney are radishes, red chilies, urad dal and lots of spices. This a simple and easy-to-make chutney which would be relished by adults and kids alike. Try this vegetarian delicacy with potato wedges or pakoras on kitty parties, buffet, pot luck to your loved ones. Since radish is a winter vegetable, this chutney is a great way of consuming and preserving radish. Try it!

4 medium radish
2 pinches asafoetida
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
1 teaspoon urad dal
2 Numbers red chilli
0 As required salt
2 tablespoon vegetable oil
4 1/2 teaspoon cumin
4 cloves garlic
4 tablespoon tamarind paste
12 Numbers green chilli
0 As required water
4 leaves coriander leaves

Steps:

  • Wash and grate the radishes and keep it aside in a bowl.
  • Place a frying pan over medium flame and pour half quantity of oil in it. Fry the red chilies. Remove the chilies and place them in a plate.
  • Now, in the same pan add grated radishes and fry them for 5 minutes. Turn off the heat and let the radishes cool.
  • Place another pan over medium-low flame and add heat oil in it. Add mustard seeds, asafoetida, urad dal, cumin and chopped garlic and let them saute for 3-4 minutes. Turn off the heat and let this mixture cool.
  • Grind the dal mixture and cooked radishes in a grinder. Add tamarind paste, fried red chilies, salt and a little water, if required. Grind all the ingredients into a smooth paste.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and serve with pakoras.

1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup thinly sliced peeled radish
1/2 cup firmly packed of fresh mint
2 tablespoons coarsely chopped cilantro
1 clove garlic
1 -2 fresh cayenne pepper

Steps:

  • Place tomato and salt in blender.
  • Let stand for 10 minutes.
  • Add all remaining ingredients.
  • Puree until smooth.

1/2 cup walnuts
1 cup daikon radish, peeled and sliced thin (Japanese white radish)
1 serrano chili, halved and seeded (or other hot green chili)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cider vinegar

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350-degrees F.
  • Spread walnuts out on a cookie sheet and bake for 10 minutes (or until toasted). Turn oven off but let walnuts sit in oven for another 5 minutes.
  • In a food processor, puree radish and chili using on/off turns.
  • Add walnuts and salt and puree.
  • Add vinegar.
  • Remove from processor to a covered bowl and refrigerate.
