EASY CHEESE AND ONION BREAD

Easy Cheese and Onion Bread image

I was searching for a quick bread recipe without all the time and work it takes to knead dough and then wait for it to rise. I searched Food Network.com and found a recipe for "Beer Bread". Although simple and fast to make, I did not like the taste of it. So I altered the ingredients and experimented a bit and after just two trys, I came up with this version. I was so pleased with it....I felt compelled to share it with others who like me, want a quick homemade bread that everyone will love! Make sure your oven is the required temperature. Let cool before slicing otherwise it will crumble and fall apart. When slicing, use a very sharp knife and saw gently while pressing down to get the best results. This bread is great with stews, chili, heartly soups, and open faced turkey or beef sandwiches. Very filling!

ONION BREAD

Onion Bread image

This recipe originally came from the booklet that accompanied my bread machine. I've modified it a bit and it's my family's favorite bread. We use it for sandwiches, toasted with parmesean cheese for dinner and even just toasted with butter for breakfast!

Provided by Brieness79

Categories     Yeast Breads

Time 3h5m

Yield 2 pound loaf

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 1/4 cups water
2/3 cup chopped onion
4 -5 garlic cloves, chopped as finely as you prefer (optional)
4 tablespoons butter
4 cups flour
2 tablespoons sugar
4 teaspoons dry milk
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons yeast

Steps:

  • Measure and add liquid ingredients to the bread pan.
  • Measure and add dry ingredients (except yeast) to the bread pan.
  • Use your finger to form a well (hole) in the flour where you will pour the yeast. Yeast must NEVER come into contact with a liquid when you are adding ingredients. Measure the yeast and carefully pour into the well.
  • Close up bread machine.
  • Choose the "basic" setting that most machines have - it's the three hour setting on mine.
  • I always use the "light" crust color because the bread comes out quite a bit softer.

QUICK AND EASY ONION BEER BREAD

Quick and Easy Onion Beer Bread image

Make and share this Quick and Easy Onion Beer Bread recipe from Food.com.

Provided by Julesong

Categories     Quick Breads

Time 1h30m

Yield 1 loaf

Number Of Ingredients 12

3 cups flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 package onion soup mix
1 tablespoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons light brown sugar
1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
1 fresh green onion, chopped
1 (10 ounce) bottle beer, un-chilled
1 fresh green onion, chopped
2 tablespoons parmesan cheese
1/4 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Using a cheese grater with small holes, grate the two portions of sharp cheddar cheese.
  • In a large bowl combine together the flour, baking powder, onion soup mix, basil, garlic powder, and sugar; stir in the grated cheese and chopped green onion.
  • Gradually pour in the beer, stirring with a fork until just blended and beer is incorporated.
  • Grease the bottom of a 9"x5" loaf pan and spread the dough in the pan.
  • Chop the additional green onion and sprinkle evenly over the surface of bread dough for topping (you can substitute chopped thinly sliced yellow onion for this, if you like).
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 50 to 55 minutes or until a cake tester comes out clean from the middle.
  • Remove bread from oven; combine the Parmesan and grated cheddar, and sprinkle it over the top of the still-hot loaf.
  • Let the bread stand in the pan for 10 minutes on a wire rack, then turn out and let cool for another 5 or so minutes before slicing and/or serving.
  • You can make this bread ahead of time- if you're going to serve it later, wrap it in foil and at the time of serving re-heat it in a 325 degree oven for about 15 minutes; it's really very tasty the day after it's prepared, so you might consider making it a day ahead of when you want to serve it.

ONION AND BUTTERMILK QUICK BREAD

Onion and Buttermilk Quick Bread image

Have fresh bread in under an hour. This is great buttered, still warm and served with home-made soup. Eat on day of making as these go stale quickly. My instructions are for 4 small loaves (1-2 people). You could easily make 6 or 8 smaller rolls. Australian measurements used.

Provided by auntchelle

Categories     Quick Breads

Time 45m

Yield 4 small loaves

Number Of Ingredients 5

375 g self raising flour
35 g French onion soup mix
2 tablespoons chives, snipped
435 ml buttermilk
buttermilk, extra

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 180 deg C, 350 deg F, Gas mark 4.
  • Sift flour into a large mixing bowl then stir in soup mix and chives.
  • Use a flat-bladed knife, and a cutting action, to mix in the buttermilk. This should form a soft dough. Use the extra buttermilk to achieve this consistency, if too dry.
  • Lightly flour your work surface. Turn out dough and quickly knead into a smooth ball. Divide into 4 even pieces. Shape each piece into a ball.
  • Place balls onto a floured baking tray. Allow room for each to rise. Sift a little flour over the top and make a slash, with a sharp knife, across each loaf.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden and cooked through.

  • In a large bowl, add milk, butter, one egg, yeast, sugar, and salt together in a large bowl. Mix well with a spatula to combine, about one minute. The butter might still be a little crumby in the mixture at this point.
  • Transfer the dough onto a clean and lightly greased surface. The oil will help keep the dough from sticking to your hands initially. You can even lightly oil your hands too.
  • Roll the ball of dough into a log and divide it into 15 equal pieces with a knife or bench scraper. Cover the dough with a damp cloth or cling wrap to prevent it from drying. When the dough loses moisture, it tends to form hard skin around its surface, which creates a crust when baking.
  • Cover the baking sheet with aluminum foil or another baking pan upside down, on top. Let the rolls rest and rise for one hour. The rolls should almost double in size. Letting the dough rise in a warmer area will help the rolls rise faster. I leave my baking sheet in the oven (turned off) and leave another pan filled with boiling water at the bottom of the oven to help the rolls rise (proof) faster.
