A burger recipe that never fails and always tastes great. Quick and simple to prepare but looks (and taste's) like it's been cooked by a gourmet chef! A combination of two different recipes from Bill Granger and Women's Weekly.

1 slice stale bread (torn into chunks)
250 g ground chicken
2 green onions (shallots, finely chopped)
1/4 cup coriander (chopped)
1 egg (lightly beaten)
200 g green capsicum (sliced thinly)
150 g tomatoes (quartered, sliced thinly)
100 g celery (trimmed, sliced thinly)
2 green onions (Shallots, sliced thinly)
1 tablespoon white wine vinegar
1 teaspoon coarse grain mustard
430 g Turkish bread (1 Loaf)
4 butter lettuce leaves
2 tablespoons mayonnaise

Steps:

  • Place bread in a small bowl and cover with water. Set aside to soak for 5 minutes, then drain and squeeze dry. Place in a large bowl with chicken mince, chopped green onion, half of coriander and egg. Mix thoroughly and season. Using wet hands, shape into 4 patties, or flatened balls.
  • Lightly spray a griddle or sandwich press with olive oil and cook patties until browned and cooked through. Set aside.
  • Combine capsicum, tomato, celery, onion, parsley, vinegar, mustard and salt to taste in a medium bowl.
  • Cut the bread into four pieces crossways; split the bread pieces in half. Toast, cut side up, under a preheated grill.
  • Layer four toasted bread pieces with lettuce, capsicum mixture, patties and mayonnaise. Top with the remaining bread slices. Garnish with remaining corriander.

Well, I made these up using our favorite ingredients. Ground pork is sometimes less expensive than ground beef. We have also had this with ground turkey and ground chicken. Everyone who has had them says that they are moist and flavorful. They are also easy to make! I usually make 4, we eat 2 and I freeze 2 to cook later. Enjoy! Let me know what you think of these :) .

1 lb ground pork (or ground beef if you like)
5 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 garlic clove, crushed
1/2 cup onion, diced
1/2 tablespoon dried basil
1/2 tablespoon Season-All salt (or other favorite seasoning, like Lawry's)
0.25 (1 1/4 ounce) package dry onion soup mix (optional)

Steps:

  • Mix all of the ingredients in a bowl.
  • Let the mix refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  • Then press the mixture into patties (I make 4 of them).
  • You have many choices on how to cook these!
  • You can cook them on your indoor grill for 5-10 minutes each, or until they are cooked throughly.
  • You could also cook them on the outdoor grill for 5-10 minutes each, or until they are cooked throughly.
  • Lastly, you could cook them on the stove for 5-10 minutes each, or until they are cooked throughly.
  • Serve on a bun, or by itself.

5 slices bacon
1 clove garlic, minced
1 pound ground pork
Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
1/4 teaspoon dried rubbed sage
Freshly ground pepper
4 potato buns, split
Unsalted butter, softened, for spreading
Coleslaw, for topping

Steps:

  • Pulse the bacon and garlic in a food processor until coarsely ground.
  • Combine the ground pork, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon pepper and the sage in a large bowl. Add the bacon mixture and gently mix with your hands. Gently form the meat into 4 balls, then lightly press into 4-inch-wide, 1-inch-thick patties. Make a 2-inch-wide indentation in the center of each with your thumb to prevent the burgers from bulging when grilled.
  • Preheat a grill to medium high. Season the patties with pepper. Grill, undisturbed, until marked on the bottom, 5 to 6 minutes. Turn and grill until the other side is marked and the patties feel firm, 4 to 6 more minutes. Meanwhile, spread the cut sides of the buns with butter and toast on the grill.
  • Serve the patties on the buns; top with coleslaw.

1 pound American cheese, cut into pieces
1 (14 ounce) jar pizza sauce
1 tablespoon dried oregano
8 hamburger buns, split, or as desired

Steps:

  • Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir beef in the hot skillet until browned and crumbly, 5 to 7 minutes; drain and discard grease. Let ground beef cool until easily handled.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Process ham and American cheese in a food processor until finely chopped. Mix ground beef, ham and American cheese, pizza sauce, and oregano together in a large bowl.   • Slice the pear lengthways as finely as you can. Toss gently with the salad leaves, a little drizzle each of extra virgin olive oil and red wine vinegar, and a pinch of black pepper. Scrunch the minced pork in your clean hands with a pinch of seasoning, then shape into a 1cm-thick patty. Rub with 1 teaspoon of olive oil, then place in a large non-stick frying pan on a high heat for 2 minutes, while you halve and toast the bun alongside, removing it when golden. Flip the burger, then, after 2 minutes, crumble the blue cheese next to it to melt. Move the burger on top of the oozy cheese, jiggle around to coat, then put it on your bun base. Stack in as much pear and salad as the bun will hold, pop the lid on, squash and devour, with any extra salad on the side. 500g (1lb) minced pork
1 large onion, peeled and grated
1 tsp ready-made English mustard
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
8 sage leaves
4 rashers streaky bacon

Steps:

  • Set the oven to Gas Mark 7 or 220°C. Put the pork into a bowl and add the onion, mustard and seasoning. Chop 4 sage leaves and mix together with the pork to evenly combine.
  • Line a baking tray with a non-stick Teflon sheet. Divide the pork into 4 and shape into burgers directly on the lined baking tray. Wrap a rasher of bacon around each burger and top each one with a sage leaf.
  • Bake for 25 mins until pork is well cooked and the bacon crispy. (There's no need to turn them while they're cooking.)
  • Add the chips to the oven and cook according to the packet instructions.
  • Meanwhile, mix together the white and red cabbage with the carrots and salad cream. Stir to combine. Serve the burgers with the chips and coleslaw. To freeze this dish, open-freeze burgers before cooking. Once frozen, line with parchment paper and put into a freezer bag for up to 3 months. Cook them in the oven from frozen for 35 mins.

125 mL (½ cup) store-bought BBQ sauce
15 mL (1 tbsp.) maple syrup
15 mL (1 tbsp.) cider or white wine vinegar
4-6 slices bacon, finely chopped
450 g (1 lb.) medium ground pork
1-2 mL (¼-½ tsp.) Sriracha sauce or other spicy sauce, or to taste
5 mL (1 tsp.) salt
To taste, freshly ground pepper
4 slices provolone cheese
4 multigrain flatbread for burgers or 4 seasoned Kaiser buns
125 mL (½ cup) mayonnaise
To taste, lettuce leaves
To taste, grilled onions slices
To taste, grilled sweet pepper strips

Steps:

  • Preheat barbecue to medium-high. In a skillet over high heat, fry bacon until crispy. Pat dry and set aside. Combine all BBQ sauce ingredients and set aside. Mix pork, chopped bacon, Sriracha sauce, salt, pepper together in a bowl. Lightly oil hands and form 4 patties, 10 cm (4 in.) in diameter. Do not over handle meat. Lightly oil the barbecue grill and cook patties about 4 minutes per side, or until internal temperature reaches 70 °C (160 °F), brushing with BBQ sauce. Add cheese at midway point. Grill bread 1 to 2 minutes per side. Spread with mayonnaise, top with some lettuce leaves, onion slices, and pepper strips, if using. Serve burgers with a salad. *Note You can grill onion slices and pepper strips at the same time as the burgers, mixing them beforehand with a little olive oil and salt.
