Time 1h5m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 cup cold butter, cubed
1 ⅔ cups cold pastry flour
⅓ cup cold water
½ pound bulk pork sausage

¼ cup dry bread crumbs
1 ½ tablespoons minced garlic
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 egg, beaten

Steps:

  • Place 1/4 cup butter in a food processor. Add flour; pulse until butter is completely mixed. Add remaining butter and pulse until pea-sized pieces remain. • Cut rolls into 1-inch pieces and place seam-side down on a baking sheet. Brush tops with beaten egg.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, 15 to 20 minutes.

PUFF PASTRY SAUSAGE ROLLS

Puff Pastry Sausage Rolls image

I make these as weekend snacks and for parties, I strongly suggest to double the recipe if you are making these for a party. To save some time prepare the sausage mixture up to 24 hours in advance. These are simply delicious, and not hard to make!

EASY PUFF PASTRY SAUSAGE ROLLS

Easy Puff Pastry Sausage Rolls image

Store-bought puff pastry simplifies the preparation of this easy sausage roll recipe. It looks impressive (and it is delicious), but so quick and simple. A salad is all you need to complete the meal. It freezes well, too.

SAUSAGE ROLLS

Sausage Rolls image

Provided by Daphne Brogdon

Categories     appetizer

Time 1h45m

Yield 24 sausage rolls

Number Of Ingredients 13

3 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 medium onion, diced
4 cloves garlic, chopped
1 egg
1 tablespoon milk
1 pound ground pork
3/4 cup small-diced russet potato
2 tablespoons breadcrumbs
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
3 sprigs fresh thyme, leaves removed
Salt and fresh ground black pepper
1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
Flour, for dusting work surface

Steps:

  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until soft and translucent, 5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for another 2 minutes. Set aside to cool.
  • In a small bowl whisk together the egg and milk. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl combine the pork, potato, breadcrumbs, nutmeg, thyme and the cooled onion-garlic mixture. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Gently mix until combined. Cover and refrigerate while you roll out the puff pastry.
  • Unfold the sheet of puff pastry on a floured work surface. With a rolling pin, roll into a 12-inch square about 1/8-inch thick. With a pizza cutter or knife, cut into four 3-by-12-inch strips. Set the strips on the prepared baking sheet and store in the refrigerator while you proceed.
  • Place one of the pastry strips lengthwise in front of you. Divide the pork filling into four equal portions. Form one of the portions into a long, tubular shape and place it on the puff pastry so it reaches from long end to long end. Brush the long side of the puff pastry furthest from you with some egg wash. Roll up the puff pasty away from you and around the pork filling to create a 12-inch-long log. Pinch the seams together and transfer, seam-side down, to the baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining pastry strips and filling. Freeze for 30 minutes to chill before baking.
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Slice each log into six equal portions so that you have 24 rolls in total. Place the rolls on the baking sheet and brush with egg wash. Bake until golden brown, 30 minutes. Let cool for about 10 minutes before serving.

PUFF PASTRY SAUSAGE WHEELS

Puff Pastry Sausage Wheels image

This is appetizer/snack is very popular in Australia. It was introduced there by English settlers. I know you will be tempted to jazz these up with herbs or onion, well go right ahead! Sometimes simple is better, though. The original recipe calls for shortcrust pastry, but I use frozen puff pastry for ease.

SAUSAGE ROLLS

Sausage Rolls image

These savory sausage and puff pastry rolls are a Christmas morning favorite of celebrity event planner Colin Cowie. A dip in tangy Worcestershire sauce adds the perfect finishing touch.

Provided by Martha Stewart

Categories     Food & Cooking     Breakfast & Brunch Recipes

Yield Makes 55 to 60

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 pound lean ground pork
1/2 medium onion, chopped
3/4 cup chopped cooked potatoes
2 tablespoons chopped flat-leaf parsley leaves
1 1/2 tablespoons crushed dried sage leaves
1/2 teaspoon coarse salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 (17-ounce) package frozen puff pastry, thawed
1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce, for serving

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Set a wire rack on a baking sheet and set aside.
  • Place pork, onion, potato, parsley, sage, salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes in a large bowl; using a fork, mix to combine. Transfer mixture to a pastry bag fitted with a large plain round tip.
  • Unfold each sheet of puff pastry (it should be folded into thirds) into a 9-by-9 1/2-inch rectangle and cut each sheet along the fold marks to make six 9 1/2-by-3 1/2-inch rectangles. Gently roll each rectangle out to form six 11-by-4-inch rectangles.
  • Pipe pork mixture along one edge of the long end of a rectangle; brush opposite edge with egg. Starting from the edge with the pork mixture, roll up puff pastry, pressing to seal. Slice into rolls about 1 1/2 inches thick and place on prepared baking sheet. Repeat process with remaining puff pastry rectangles and pork mixture.
  • Brush rolls with remaining egg mixture and transfer to oven; bake until golden about 20 minutes. Serve with Worcestershire sauce, for dipping.
