Time 1h5m

Yield 6 servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 cup bread flour
1/2 teaspoon fine salt
1 cup whole or non-fat milk, warmed
2 tablespoons unsalted butter or oil, melted
3 large eggs
2 to 3 teaspoons vegetable shortening
Serving suggestions: Butter and jam

  • Lower the heat to 350 degrees F. and continue to bake the popovers for 20 minutes, at this point they will be golden brown. Right after removing the popovers from the oven, poke each one with a paring knife to release steam. Turn popovers from the pan and serve immediately with butter and jam.

Time 25m

Yield 6 popovers

Number Of Ingredients 6

6 tablespoons canola oil
1 cup flour
1 cup milk
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon garlic and peppercorn marinade seasoning (recommended: McCormick)
1/2 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.
  • Divide the oil among the cups of a 6-cup muffin pan. Place the pan in the oven until the oil is very hot, about 5 minutes.
  • In a blender, combine the flour, milk, eggs, garlic and peppercorn marinade seasoning and salt. Transfer the batter to a measuring cup to make it easier to pour into the muffin cups.
  • Carefully, as the oil may pop or splatter, pour the batter about 1/3 the way up the sides of the muffin cups. Place in the oven and bake for 15 minutes. Refrain from opening the oven door or they will not rise properly. The popovers are done when they have more than tripled in size and are golden brown and crisp around the edges. Serve immediately.

Breakfast Popovers with Italian Sausage image

Provided by Giada De Laurentiis

Time 55m

Yield 12 popovers

Number Of Ingredients 13

Butter, for greasing the pan
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
Two 3-to-4-ounce sweet or spicy Italian sausage links, casings removed
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup shredded smoked mozzarella (4 ounces)
4 large eggs, at room temperature
2 cups milk, at room temperature
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 small green onions, pale green and white parts only, finely sliced to yield 1/4 cup
3 tablespoons chopped fresh basil
1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Maple syrup, for drizzling

Steps:

  • Place an oven rack in the center of the oven and preheat to 400 degrees F. Butter the muffin cups.
  • Heat the oil over medium heat in a medium nonstick skillet. Add the sausage and break it into 1/4-to-1/2-inch pieces using a wooden spoon. Cook until brown and cooked through, about 6 minutes. Add the garlic and cook until aromatic, about 30 seconds. Spoon about 1 1/2 tablespoons sausage into each muffin cup. Sprinkle the cheese on top of the sausage.
  • Blend the eggs in a blender until frothy, about 15 seconds. Add the milk, flour, green onions, basil, salt and pepper. Blend until just incorporated. Parmesan Popovers with Crispy Sage Garlic Butter image

These perfect parmesan popovers are light, airy, hinted with browned butter and parmesan cheese, and are SO delicious.

Provided by Tieghan Gerard

Time 50m

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 tablespoons, +6 tsp salted butter
1-2 cloves garlic, lightly smashed
8 fresh sage leaves
1 1/2 cups whole milk, at room temperature
3 large eggs, at room temperature
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
2 tablespoons freshly grated parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper (optional)
4 tablespoons salted butter, at room temperature

Steps:

  • 1. Heat 2 tablespoons butter, the garlic, and sage in a small skillet over medium heat and cook the butter until it begins to brown and the sage is crisp, about 3-4 minutes. Remove the garlic and sage from the skillet and reserve for making the sage garlic butter. 2. Position a rack in the lower third of the oven. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. 3. Place 1 teaspoon of butter in each cup of a 6 cup standard popover pan. Alternately, you can use a 12-cup muffin pans and make 10 mini popovers. Transfer the popover pan to the oven.4. In medium bowl, vigorously whisk together the milk and eggs until frothy, about 1 minute. Add the browned butter, flour, parmesan, salt, and pepper - if using, and whisk to combine. It's OK if there are small lumps. 5. Carefully remove the popover pan from the oven and carefully swirl the butter around the cups to grease the pan. Evenly divide the batter between the popover cups, filling them about 3/4 of the way full. Transfer to the oven and bake for 20 minutes. Lower the oven temperature to 350 degrees. Bake another 15-20 minutes, until puffed, golden and crisp. 6. Meanwhile, make the sage butter. Mash the reserved garlic with a fork. Chop the crispy sage. Stir both the mashed garlic and sage together with 4 tablespoons butter.7. Serve the warm popovers immediately, with sage butter.
