POLAR BEAR COOKIES RECIPE

Polar Bear Cookies Recipe image

Creating a winter fun treat doesn't have to be expensive or complicated. These adorable polar bear cookies are fun to make and require very little effort!

Provided by Cheryl Najafi

Categories     Dessert

Time 47m

Number Of Ingredients 5

12 chocolate sandwich cookies (preferably double-stuffed)
24 miniature marshmallows
12 oz bag white candy melts (round disc shape)
12 candy-coated chocolate candies (blue or brown )
1 tube black decorating gel

Steps:

  • Open each cookie then place 2 marshmallows into position for 'ears'. Press cookie back together, squeezing the edge of the marshmallow in between the two cookies and securing the 'ears' in place. Repeat with remaining cookies.
  • Remove 12 perfectly-shaped candy melts from the package then set aside. Melt the remaining candies according to package directions. Lay a sheet of parchment or wax paper nearby to place cookies once they've been dipped. When the candies are melted, dip cookies one at a time, coating them completely.
  • Remove the cookie carefully from the melted candy using a fork then gently tap fork on the side of the bowl to smooth the surface and let excess candy fall off. Try to position the cookie on the fork such that the 'ears' are supported by the fork while you tap so they don't fall into the candy. Transfer dipped cookies to parchment paper and repeat until no cookies remain.
  • Before the candy sets completely, place a reserved (un-melted) candy disc on the cookie to form a muzzle on the bear. Press lightly into place so the melted candy forms a ridge around the disc. This adds a fun little facial feature to the polar bears. Let bears set until firm but reserve at least a teaspoon of the dipping mixture to use to adhere the noses.
  • Once the cookies have set, re-melt the reserved candy coating to use as 'glue' to adhere the candy noses in place. Use a dot of decorating gel to create eyes. If you would like to add a mouth, you can do that as well. Once the nose is firmly adhered, serve these cute little guys up!

Provided by Melissa Rose

Categories     Dessert

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 16

3/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon almond extract ((nut allergy? you can substitute this with extra vanilla!))
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1.5 teaspoons almond extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 cups powdered sugar
Gel food coloring
M&M's candy (I used both mini & regular sized M&M's)
Circle cookie cutter (2.5-3" in diameter)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar on medium speed for 20-30 seconds. Mix in egg, vanilla and almond extract. Add in baking powder, salt, and flour and mix until combined. Transfer to a flour-covered surface and use a rolling pin to roll dough 3/8" to 1/2" thick. Use a 2.5-3" circle cookie cutter or glass cup to cut out dough.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Depending on size of your cookie cutter and thickness of dough, you may need to bake for a few extra minutes. Allow to cool before decorating.
  • To make frosting: In a large mixing bowl, add butter, vanilla extract, almond extract, and salt. Cream together on medium speed for 30 seconds, or until blended together. Mix in powdered sugar 1/2 cup at a time until all is incorporated. Turn mixer to high speed, and beat for 2-3 minutes until light and fluffy.
  • To decorate: Reference the photos in the post above or print off my printable instruction PDF to decorate the polar bear faces.1. Use a piping or ziploc bag to spread on white frosting. If desired, press wet cookie into white sanding sugar.2. With your white frosting, pipe a large dot in the center for the nose and 2 smaller dots on the top for the ears.3. Press on 2 mini brown M&M's for the eyes, 2 mini red M&M's for the cheeks, and one regular-sized brown M&M for the nose.
  • Store in airtight container for 2-3 days or freeze for later.

POLAR BEAR (SHOT)

Polar Bear (Shot) image

The Polar Bear is one of my favourite shots... like a peppermint patty, smooth and refreshing. I had no idea it was so simple to make until my friend put it together during one of our Group Naps. What is a GN? Well, to have a very successful Group Nap, all you need are your best friends, many plush blankets all around you in preferably a variety of colours and textures, lots of chocolate and candy and a few Polar Bear shots. Turn on some Mr. Bean or Family Guy, sip or throw back some Polar Bears, indulge in some chocolates and have the best nap you've ever had. Life does not get much better than that!
