A fun and tasty sandwich that can be served open-faced or in a traditional sandwich style. Beef, traditional pizza flavors and mozzarella cheese make for a delicious combination.

Number Of Ingredients 13

6.375 pounds Raw ground beef ((6 pounds, 6 ounces), no more than 20% fat)
1 pound Fresh onions, chopped ((or 3 ounces dehydrated onions))
2¼ teaspoons Granulated garlic
1 tablespoon Salt, kosher
1 teaspoon Ground black or white pepper
1.75 pounds Canned tomato paste ((1 pound, 12 ounces))
1.875 quarts Water ((1 quart, 3½ cups))
3 tablespoons Dried basil
3 tablespoons Dried oregano
2.5 tablespoons Dried marjoram ((2 tablespoons, 1½ teaspoons))
1½ teaspoons Dried thyme
50 each Enriched hamburger rolls (at least 1.8 ounces each)
1.563 pounds Lite mozzarella cheese, shredded ((1 pound, 9 ounces))

Steps:

  • Brown ground beef. Drain. Continue immediately.
  • Add onions, granulated garlic, salt, pepper, tomato paste, water, and seasonings. Mix.
  • Place split rolls on sheet pan (18" x 26" x 1"), 25 halves per pan. For 50 servings, use 4 pans.
  • Portion meat mixture with No. 24 scoop (2⅔ Tbsp) onto 50 half rolls.
  • Top all half rolls with 1⁄4 oz (1 Tbsp) shredded cheese.
  • Bake until heated through and cheese is melted:Conventional oven: 400° F for 8 minutesConvection oven: 350° F for 6 minutes
  • Serve 2 open-faced halves (1 with meat and 1 with cheese) per serving or, if preferred, serve as a closed face sandwich.

1 pound ground beef
1 pound Italian sausage (a little more is fine!)
1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
12 slices provolone
16 slices pepperoni
Thinly sliced red onion, for topping
1 green bell pepper, sliced thick
Sliced black olives, for topping
8 tablespoons jarred marinara sauce, plus a little more
4 kaiser rolls or good hamburger buns (kaiser rolls from the bakery section)
Butter, for toasting
Grated Parmesan (store bought)

Steps:

  • Combine the ground beef, Italian sausage and Italian seasoning in a bowl. Knead the mixture together and form it into four large/thick patties.
  • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the burgers on one side for several minutes, then turn the burgers. Lay 2 slices of provolone on each patty, followed by 4 slices of pepperoni. Add a couple of thin slices of red onion, a slice of green bell pepper and a pile of black olives. Spoon a little marinara sauce on top, then lay another slice of cheese on top of all the fillings.
  • Place the lid on the skillet and allow the burgers to cook all the way through while the cheese melts and the pepperoni warms.
  • Split the rolls and toast them in butter in a skillet until nice and golden and crisp. Spread both halves with more marinara sauce and sprinkle the sauce with Parmesan.
  • Lay the patties on the bottom buns, then top with the top buns. Serve immediately; hearty appetites are recommended!

Cafeteria style pizza burgers are a classic childhood recipe straight from school lunch days. Your kids will love the combination of burger and pizza flavor on one sandwich.

2 lbs lean ground beef
1 can SPAM
1/2 tbsp dried oregano
2 tbsp parsley flakes
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 12 oz can pizza sauce (NOT spaghetti sauce)
8 oz shredded cheddar cheese
4 oz shredded mozzarella cheese
hamburger buns (plain)

Steps:

  • Add the ground beef to a large skillet set over medium heat. Cook it, breaking up & crumbling, until it's all nicely browned. Strain off the grease, and return the skillet to the stove.
  • Add the spam to the skillet, still set over medium heat, and break it up into small bits using a meat chopper. Let this meat mixture simmer for 5-6 minutes.
  • Add the seasonings & sauce to the skillet, stirring just until everything's evenly combined.
  • Remove the skillet from heat, and stir in the cheeses until completely melted and the mixture's evenly combined.
  • Open the hamburger buns & lay them out open faces up (both bottoms & tops) on a baking sheet.
  • Using a measuring cup, add 1/4 cup of the meat mixture to each bun and use the back of the cup to gently spread it to cover the surface of said bun. Continue until all the buns are covered.
  • Bake the pizza burgers at 425° for 5-10 minutes, just until the buns are nicely toasted and the mixture's bubbly.
  • Serve & enjoy!

1 can(s) tomato paste
2 tsp italian seasoning
1/2 tsp garlic powder with parsley
1 small onion diced (optional)
16 slice pizza pepperoni slices (my addition not in orginal school recipe)
8 slice american cheese
8 cherry tomatoes (we omit these)
4 hamburger buns toasted. (each half will be anopen faced sandwitch)
1/2 c parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • 1. Mix hamburger. tomato paste, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, Parmesan cheese and diced onions together. shape into 8 burgers. and flatten onto a lipped baking pan. put in oven on 400 turning once until done. Top with 2 pieces of pepperoni, then braking the single in half Cris cross over top of burger. Broil to melt cheese and put each burger on a 1/2 of a bun. making 8 open faced burgers.
