PHILLY CHEESESTEAK LASAGNA

Philly Cheesesteak Lasagna image

I love my Philly cheesesteak sandwiches with marinara, so I thought I'd try making lasagna! It turned out fantastic! Note that you do not have to boil your noodles for lasagna. Just let them soak in hot tap water for at least 20 minutes.

Categories     Main Dish Recipes     Pasta     Lasagna Recipes     Meat Lasagna Recipes

Time 2h40m

Yield 12

Number Of Ingredients 17

2 pounds flank steak
2 onions, sliced
2 green bell peppers, sliced
1 (8 ounce) package sliced fresh mushrooms
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons olive oil
salt and ground black pepper to taste
12 lasagna noodles
cooking spray
2 (24 ounce) jars spaghetti sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 (16 ounce) container ricotta cheese
1 (8 ounce) package shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 egg, beaten
¼ cup chopped fresh parsley
2 (8 ounce) packages shredded provolone cheese

Steps:

  • Combine flank steak, onions, green bell peppers, and mushrooms in a large resealable plastic bag. Add Worcestershire sauce, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Seal and let marinate in the refrigerator, about 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Place lasagna noodles in a 9x13-inch baking dish. Cover with hot water and let soak until tender, about 20 minutes. Drain in a colander. Grease baking dish with cooking spray.
  • Transfer steak to a large baking sheet. Arrange onions, green bell peppers, and mushrooms around steak. Discard marinade.
  • Bake steak in the preheated oven until starting to brown, 15 to 20 minutes. Turn on broiler; broil until steak darkens, about 5 minutes. When cool enough to handle, slice the steak into thin pieces.
  • Combine spaghetti sauce and garlic powder in a large skillet over medium-low heat. Stir in the sliced flank steak. Add onions, green bell peppers, and mushrooms. Remove from heat.
  • Mix ricotta cheese, half of the mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, egg, and parsley together in a bowl.
  • Spread 2 cups of the sauce mixture in the bottom of the baking dish. Top with 4 lasagna noodles. Cover noodles with 1/3 of the ricotta mixture, 2 cups of the sauce mixture, and 1/3 of the provolone cheese. Repeat layers twice. Sprinkle remaining mozzarella cheese on top. Cover baking dish with greased aluminum foil.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until bubbling, about 45 minutes. Uncover and continue baking until mozzarella cheese is browned, about 15 minutes. Let stand for 15 minutes before cutting and serving.

PHILLY CHEESE STEAK

Philly Cheese Steak image

Provided by Food Network

Time 55m

Yield 4 sandwiches

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 pound shell, sirloin, or rib steak, well trimmed and boneless
About 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1 Vidalia or other sweet onion, halved and thinly sliced
Fine sea salt and freshly ground pepper
4 to 6 Italian frying peppers, halved and stemmed, seeds discarded
4 soft hero breads or hoagie rolls, halved lengthwise
Balsamic vinegar
1/4 pound imported fontina or sharp, aged provolone, thinly sliced

Steps:

  • Slice the beef on an electric meat slicer, or use the following method: with plastic wrap, tightly roll the steak into a torpedo or log shape. Put the beef in the freezer for 30 to 45 minutes to firm it until tight but not frozen. Remove the plastic wrap and, working quickly; use an electric knife to slice the beef into paper-thin slices, almost shaving the beef. If this does not produce very thin results, cut the beef into the thinnest slices possible and flatten, using a meat pounder. Once all the beef has been cut, refrigerate until the remaining ingredients are ready.
  • Heat 2 tablespoons of the oil in a heavy-bottomed saute pan set over low heat. Put in the onions, season with salt and pepper, and cook until nicely softened and lightly caramelized but not browned, about 20 minutes. Transfer the onions to a bowl and set aside. Add the pepper halves to the pan, season with salt and pepper, and fry until soft and tender, about 12 minutes. Transfer to the bowl with the onions. Keep the onions and peppers covered and warm.
  • In a clean, heavy-bottomed saute pan, heat the remaining oil over medium heat. Add the beef in batches and lightly brown, seasoning with salt and pepper as you cook, adding more oil if necessary.
  • Pull out a little of the doughy insides of each loaf, then drizzle lightly with the oil, a splash of vinegar, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Put 1/4 of the beef inside each roll, top with onions and peppers, and finish with several slices of cheese. Cover with the top half of the bread. Wrap snugly in sandwich wrapping paper, slice diagonally in half, and serve.

PHILLY CHEESE STEAK

Philly Cheese Steak image

It's hard to think of Philadelphia without thinking of the cheesesteak, a sandwich containing chopped steak, melted cheese and sometimes peppers and onions. The big cheese steak debate, ongoing between rival restaurants Pat's and Geno's, is whether the steak should be topped with Provolone or American cheese, or canned cheese whiz. Bobby Flay's loaded cheese steak recipe is topped with a melted Provolone sauce, onions, peppers and mushrooms.

Provided by Bobby Flay

Categories     main-dish

Time 2h15m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 29

2 to 2 1/2 pound strip loin, trimmed
Olive oil
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Soft hoagie rolls, split 3/4 open
Provolone Sauce, recipe follows
Sauteed Mushrooms, recipe follows
Caramelized Onions, recipe follows
Sauteed Peppers, recipe follows
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
2 cups whole milk, heated
1 cup grated aged provolone cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmigiano-Reggiano
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1 1/2 pounds mushrooms (cremini and shiitake), coarsely chopped
3 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley leaves
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 tablespoons canola oil
3 large Spanish onions, peeled, halved and thinly sliced
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 poblano peppers, thinly sliced
2 Cubano peppers, thinly sliced
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Place steak in freezer for 30 to 45 minutes; this makes it easier to slice the meat. Remove the meat from the freezer and slice very thinly.
  • Heat griddle or grill pan over high heat. Brush steak slices with oil and season with salt and pepper. Cook for 45 to 60 seconds per side.
  • Place several slices of the meat on the bottom half of the roll, spoon some of the cheese sauce over the meat, and top with the mushrooms, onions, and peppers.
  • Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Slowly whisk in the warm milk, and cook, whisking constantly until thickened, about 4 to 5 minutes. Remove the mixture from the heat and whisk in the provolone and Parmesan until combined; season with the salt and pepper.
  • Heat oil and butter in a large saute pan over high heat. Add the mushrooms and cook until the mushrooms are golden brown. Stir in the parsley and season with salt and pepper.
  • Heat butter and oil in a large saute pan over medium heat. Add the onions, season with salt and pepper, and cook slowly until golden brown and caramelized, stirring occasionally, approximately 30 to 40 minutes.
  • Heat the oil in medium saute pan over high heat. Add the peppers and cook until soft. Season with salt and pepper.

PHILLY CHEESESTEAK

Philly cheesesteak image

Pile steak, onion, peppers, cheese, ketchup and mustard into rolls to make these American-style Philly cheesesteaks. Just the food for a movie night in

Provided by Esther Clark

Categories     Dinner, Lunch, Snack, Supper, Treat

Time 55m

Number Of Ingredients 10

300g steaks
2tbsp sunflower oil
1 onion , sliced
1 red pepper , sliced
1 green pepper , sliced
2tbsp white wine vinegar
8 cheese slices
50g grated mozzarella
4 soft white sub rolls
American mustard and ketchup, to serve

Steps:

  • Trim away and discard the long piece of fat running down the side of the steaks. Cut each steak in half and put on a baking tray, then transfer to the freezer and freeze for 40 mins.
  • Heat the oil in a heavy-based pan or casserole dish set over a medium heat. Add the onion and peppers along with a good pinch of salt and fry for 20 mins, or until the onions are golden and sticky. Add the vinegar and cook for a further 5 mins. Season to taste.
  • Using a sharp knife, slice the steak as thinly as possible and pile the slices into four portions. Heat a skillet over a high heat until almost smoking. Put one portion of the steak slices in the pan in a pile that's roughly the length of your rolls. Fry for 3 mins over a high heat until some of the steak is cooked through, with pink bits remaining. Pile a quarter of the onion mixture on top, as well as a quarter each of the cheese slices and the mozzarella. Continue to cook undisturbed over a medium heat for 5-10 mins until the meat is brown and crisp around the edge and the cheeses have melted. Split one of the rolls open and carefully scoop the meat and cheese mixture into it. Repeat with the remaining meat, onions, cheese and rolls.
