  • Rosemary. Rosemary is one traditional culinary perennial herb that can find a place in many gardens. It is great for growing in drought-prone areas since it is rather tolerant of low rainfall levels.
  • Lavender. This is another Mediterranean herb that is a great choice, both for your garden and to provide various yields for your home. Lavender has certain limited culinary applications, though it is more commonly used in home-made cleaners and beauty products, in which it is prized for its beautiful fragrance.
  • Oregano. Oregano is another important herb in Mediterranean style cooking, and can be used, fresh or dry, in a range of recipes. As an aromatic herb, oregano is said to repel a range of common insect pests, and so it is good for confusing, repelling or distracting a range of annoying species.
  • Marjoram. Not to be confused with oregano (sometimes referred to as pot marjoram), sweet marjoram has a somewhat less strong flavour and aroma, and is usually used fresh, and added only towards the end of cooking.
  • Thyme. Thyme is a good companion plant because it is particularly good at attracting hoverflies/ Syrphidae which reduce aphid numbers through predation.

20 BEST PERENNIAL HERBS - TYPES OF HERBS FOR AN EDIBLE GARDEN

From countryliving.com

  • Creeping Thyme. Thyme is a fast grower with teeny leaves and loads of purple or pink flowers. The best news: It thrives on poor soil, and pollinators love it!
  • Lovage. This old-fashioned herb isn’t seen that often nowadays, but it’s generally unfussy and can grow to several feet tall. Use fresh leaves for a light celery flavor in casseroles, soups, potato dishes, and poultry dressing.
  • Oregano. Honestly, you almost can’t kill oregano. It’s hardy, spreads fast, and has little purple-ish flowers that last for weeks to attract pollinators.
  • Parsley. Parsley is biennial, so it'll be two seasons before they flower. Buy plants; you’ll lose patience waiting for seeds to sprout. It takes three to five weeks to germinate!
  • Lemon Verbena. This herb has glossy leaves and small white flowers that bloom from mid- to late summer. It survives only mild winters because it’s considered a tropical plant.
