No one can resist this classic banana bread recipe! It's the perfect homemade hostess gift. Plus, try using it next time you make French toast for a real game-changer.

2¼ cups all-purpose flour, sifted
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
4 medium ripe bananas, mashed (about 1½ cups)
½ cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325°. Spray a 9×5-inch loaf pan with baking spray with flour.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt. In a medium bowl, whisk together banana, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla. Fold banana mixture into flour mixture until just combined. Spread batter into prepared pan.
  • Bake until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean, 50 to 60 minutes. Let cool in pan for 10 minutes. Remove from pan, and let cool completely on a wire rack. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Another wonderful recipe courtesy Paula Deen Television Food Network, 2003. This is very good and oh so cheesy. Edited 06/01/07 I have made it again and the one thing I have to add is to caramelize the onions before you use them and if you choose, use a heart-healthy baking mix.

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
3/4 cup finely diced onion
1/2 cup milk
1 egg, beaten
1 1/2 cups Bisquick baking mix
1 cup shredded extra-sharp cheddar cheese
1/2 teaspoon onion salt or 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives or 1 tablespoon fresh parsley leaves
butter, for serving

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Heat the oil in the skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the onions and cook until tender, about 7 minutes.
  • In a large bowl, add the milk and egg to biscuit mix, stirring just until the mix is moistened.
  • Fold in the onions and 1/2 cup of cheese.
  • Spoon the dough into a buttered 8-inch round cake pan.
  • Mix the onion salt or powder - into the melted butter and drizzle the mixture over the dough.
  • Sprinkle the bread with chives or parsley and bake for 15 minutes.
  • Top the bread with remaining 1/2 cup of cheese and bake until the bread is cooked through and the cheese top golden, about 5 minutes longer.
  • Cut the bread into wedges and serve warm with butter.

This is a light and delicious loaf of bread made with instant mashed potato flakes. It was my first truly successful attempt at using my new bread machine, and I plan on making it again and again! If I didn't screw it up it must be foolproof! I found this online somewhere, but I'm ashamed to say I forgot where. This makes one 1 1/2 pound loaf.

Number Of Ingredients 9

3/4 cup milk or 3/4 cup soymilk
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons vegetable oil or 2 tablespoons canola oil
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
3 cups bread flour
1/2 cup instant potato flakes
1 tablespoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon white pepper (optional-i omit)
2 teaspoons active dry yeast

Steps:

  • Add all ingredients to bread machine in order listed, or as recommended by your bread machine.
  • Select desired setting and press start.
  • I make this using the basic cycle and the lightest crust setting.

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 cup white sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
3 (10 count) cans refrigerated biscuits (10 biscuits each)
1/2 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
cooking spray

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  • Put the white sugar and cinnamon in the pie plate and mix them together with your fingers until they are completely mixed.
  • Remove the biscuits from the tubes.
  • Place each biscuit on the cutting board and cut each one into fourths.
  • Place each piece of biscuit into the cinnamon sugar and shake it all.
  • around until it is coated. (Do a few at a time.).
  • Put the butter and brown sugar into the pot and heat it over low heat until it is mixed together.
  • Stir with the wooden spoon.
  • Turn off the heat.
  • Spray the Bundt pan with cooking spray.
  • Place the biscuit pieces evenly in the Bundt pan.
  • Pour the brown sugar mixture over the biscuits.
  • Bake the biscuits in the oven for 35 minutes.
  • Remove the Bundt pan and place it on the wire rack to cool for 10 minutes.
  • To serve, turn the Bundt pan upside down onto the cake plate.
  • The biscuits should fall right out.
  • Let the monkey bread cool for a few minutes.
  • Pinch off piece to eat.

1/2 cup Crisco shortening
1 cup sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 eggs, beaten
3 bananas, mashed
1/3 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup walnuts (chopped) or 1/2 cup pecans (chopped)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Cream shortening and sugar.
  • Soft together flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda and add to creamed mixture.
  • Add remaining ingredients and mix well.
  • Pour into a well-greased loaf pan.
  • Bake for 40 to 45 minutes.
