PAUL BUNYAN COOKIES

Paul Bunyan Cookies image

I got this recipe from Martha Stewart Living a long time ago. These cookies have everything (except for peanut butter - I guess Paul Bunyan didn't like peanut butter) :-) I won a blue ribbon at the county fair for these, under the "cookie with the most ingredients" category.

Categories     main-dish

Time 35m

Yield 1 serving

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 cups red wine
6 cloves garlic
2 tablespoons dried oregano
2 tablespoons dried basil
1 pound butter, at room temperature
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley leaves
1 (16-ounce) New York strip steak
Salt and pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat a grill or a grill pan to medium-high heat.
  • Combine red wine, garlic, oregano, and basil in a medium saucepan. Reduce over high heat until wine is just about evaporated. Add reduced wine mixture to butter. Add Worcestershire sauce and parsley and mix until well combined. Refrigerate butter mixture for 5 minutes to harden slightly. After butter mixture has hardened slightly, spread mixture over waxed paper and roll into a log. Chill. After butter sets in log, cut into 1-inch thick medallions to top steak.

PAUL BUNYAN COOKIES

Submitted by Carol Osgood of Littleton, Colorado. As their name implies, these cookies are very large, so place six to eight cookies per sheet.

Provided by Martha Stewart

Categories     Food & Cooking     Dessert & Treats Recipes     Cookie Recipes

Yield Makes about 18 cookies

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup molasses
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
1 bag (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
1 1/2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
1 cup raisins
1 cup (5 ounces) chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350 degrees. Line baking sheet with a Silpat. Sift together flour, cinnamon, baking soda, baking powder, ginger, and salt in a medium bowl.
  • In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream vegetable shortening and sugar on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Add molasses, and beat to combine. Add eggs and mix until fully incorporated. Add the flour mixture, one cup at a time, beating on low speed until dough comes together. Remove bowl from mixer. Using a wooden spoon, stir in chocolate chips, oats, raisins, and walnuts.
  • Using a 2-inch ice cream scoop, drop dough onto prepared baking sheet, about 3 inches apart. Bake until firm, 15 to 18 minutes. Transfer baking sheets to a wire rack to cool for 5 minutes before transferring cookies to wire rack to cool completely. Repeat with remaining dough.

"PAUL BUNYAN" COOKIES

If your children like cookies and what child doesn't! They are in for a treat with these great tasting cookies. Just a simple, rich, butter cookie recipe. My Grandma called these cookies, "Cobblestone Cookies"..some people call them "Milk Box Cookies", I call them "Delicious"; The newspaper clipping calls them Paul Bunyan...

Add nuts to the second piece, and press onto the first piece.Or wrap each piece separately and pack into pan the next day. • 5. Cover and chill overnight.Next day Unwrap, cut loaf in half lengthwise. If you want a large cookie -"Paul Bunyan" style -do not cut dough in half. Be sure to place these cookies at least 4 to 6 inches apart on cookie sheet. Heat oven to 350^.
  • 6. Cut each half into 1/8-inch slices. Place 1 inch apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or just until edges are firm;or starting to brown on the edges. PAUL BUNYAN ON WHEELS | MACLEAN'S | APRIL 1 1942
For this lunch there were beans, beef stew, bread and butter, corn syrup, cookies and strong tea. The food had been carried from the main camp on a horse-drawn sleigh, then heated over the open fire.
