With Cinco de Mayo around the corner, these Simple Orange Lime Margaritas are perfect to have on your menu. They are made with fresh squeezed orange juice, lime juice, triple sec and tequila for a simple, flavorful and fun margarita recipe! This is a twist on a classic margarita recipe that you're definitely going to want to try.

3/4 cup fresh orange juice (4 oranges)
1/4 cup fresh lime juice (4 limes)
1 ounce triple sec
3 1/2 ounces tequila
1/4 cup sugar for rim, optional

Steps:

  • Pour sugar onto a plate. Then take a lime wedge and run it around the rim of your glasses. Dip the glasses into sugar to line the rim. Fill glasses halfway with ice.
  • Squeeze juice from oranges and limes?and pour into cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Measure triple sec and tequila and add to cocktail shaker.
  • Shake and pour into two glasses.

BLACKBERRY-LIME MARGARITAS

1 cup frozen blackberries
1 lime, zested and juiced
Orange Simple Syrup, recipe follows
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 lime, cut into 4 wedges, plus additional lime wedges, for garnish
8 ounces silver tequila
Blackberries, for garnish
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 orange, zested and juiced

Steps:

  • For the blackberry-lime ice cubes: Add the frozen blackberries, lime zest and juice and Orange Simple Syrup to a blender and puree until smooth. Pour into an ice cube tray with sixteen 1-ounce wells, put on a baking sheet and freeze until solid, at least 2 hours.
  • For the blackberry-lime margaritas: Put 2 tablespoons sugar onto a small plate. Run a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks glass and dip the rim into the sugar to coat. Repeat with the remaining lime wedges and sugar with 3 more rocks glasses.
  • For each drink, put 4 blackberry-lime ice cubes in a blender with 2 ounces silver tequila and 1 cup regular ice and blend until smooth. Pour the margarita into one of the prepared glasses. Repeat with the remaining ingredients. Garnish each glass with fresh blackberries and a lime wedge.
  • Special equipment: an ice cube tray with sixteen 1-ounce wells
  • Make the simple syrup by combining the sugar, orange zest and juice and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepot. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring, until the sugar has completely dissolved, 3 to 4 minutes. Set aside to cool.

1 cup water
2 cups sugar
chipped ice
1 cup fresh lime juice
1 cup tequila
1/2 cup orange liqueur
1 lime
1/4 cup coarse salt

Steps:

  • In a small heavy saucepan, combine the water and sugar.
  • Cook over medium heat until it forms a clear syrup, about 10 minutes.
  • Set aside and allow the syrup to cool completely.
  • Fill a large pitcher half full with chipped ice; stir in the lime juice, orange juice, sugar syrup, tequila, and orange liqueur.
  • Cut the lime into 8 wedges.
  • Using a wedge of lime, rub the rims of four glasses with the lime and invert the glasses into a plate of coarse salt.
  • Fill each glass with chipped ice and pour the margarita mix, evenly divided, over the ice.
  • Garnish each drink with a wedge of lime.

1 ounce Simple Syrup, recipe follows
1/2 to 1 teaspoon orange liqueur
1 tablespoon Lime-salt-sugar, recipe follows
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
Zest of one lime
2 tablespoons kosher salt
2 tablespoons sugar

Steps:

  • Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add tequila, lime juice, Simple Syrup and orange liqueur. Cover and shake until mixed and chilled, about 30 seconds. (In general, the drink is ready by the time the shaker mists up.) Place Lime-salt-sugar on a plate. Press the rim of a chilled rocks or wine glass into the mixture to rim the edge. Strain margarita into the glass.
  • Put the sugar and water in a small saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring, until the sugar dissolves. (Alternatively, heat in the microwave.) Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.
  • Blend together lime, salt and sugar in a small blender or mini food chopper.

2 lemons, cut into 3/4-inch pieces
2 limes, cut into 3/4-inch pieces
1/2 cup superfine sugar
1/4 cup Cointreau
1/4 cup Triple Sec
1 1/2 cups good quality tequila (recommended: 100 percent agave)
10 cups ice
Fine salt, for the rims of the glasses
10 lime wedges

Steps:

  • Put the oranges, lemons, and limes through a juicer. Pour the juice into a large pitcher. Add the sugar and stir to dissolve. Then stir in the Cointreau, Triple Sec, and tequila.
  • To serve: Pour salt onto a small plate. Run a lime wedge around the top of each glass and dip the glass in the salt. Fill each glass halfway with ice and pour in the juice mixture. Garnish with a lime wedge and serve.
  • Chef's note: Farm freshness is the key here. Look for the citrus that is mostly in season and adjust the recipe. Tangerines, Meyer lemons, and key limes all have amazing flavor if you can find them.
