2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon salt
6 cups sliced peeled tart apples
1/3 cup raisins
Pastry for double-crust pie (9 inches)
3 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons orange juice
GLAZE:
1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
4-1/2 teaspoons orange juice
1/2 teaspoon grated orange zest

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt. Add apples and raisins; toss to coat. Line a 9-in. pie plate with bottom pastry; trim to 1 in. beyond edge of plate. Spoon apple mixture into crust. Dot with butter; sprinkle with orange juice. Roll out remaining pastry to fit top of pie. Make cutouts in pastry with small cookie cutters if desired or cut slits in pastry. Place over filling; trim, seal and flute edges., Bake at 400° for 40-45 minutes or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly. In a small bowl, whisk glaze ingredients until blended. Spread over warm pie. Cool on a wire rack.

6 cups sliced, peeled tart apples
⅓ cup raisins
1 Pastry for double-crust pie (9 inches)
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
2 tablespoons orange juice
½ cup confectioners' sugar
4 ½ teaspoons orange juice
½ teaspoon grated orange peel

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine the sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt. Add apples and raisins; toss to coat. Line a 9-in. pie plate with bottom pastry; trim to 1 in. beyond edge of plate. Spoon apple mixture into crust. Dot with butter; sprinkle with orange juice. Roll out remaining pastry to fit top of pie. Pastry for double-crust pie (9 inches)
6 cups thinly sliced peeled apples, divided
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup crushed gingersnaps
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
1/4 cup butter, melted
1/4 cup maple syrup

Steps:

  • Line a 9-in. pie pan with the bottom crust. Place half of the apples in the crust; set aside. , In a bowl, combine sugars, gingersnaps, cinnamon, nuts and butter; sprinkle half over apples in crust. Top with remaining apples and sugar mixture. Roll out remaining pastry to fit top of pie. Cut a few slits in the top and place over apples; seal. Cover loosely with foil and bake at 375° for 35 minutes. , Meanwhile, bring syrup to a gentle boil in a small saucepan. Remove pie from oven; remove foil and brush hot syrup over pie and into vents. Return pie to oven and bake, uncovered, 20 minutes longer. Serve warm.

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

2 tablespoons butter
1 cup sifted confectioners' sugar
3 tablespoons orange juice

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • In a small bowl, combine sugar, flour, cinnamon, and salt.
  • Blend.
  • In a large bowl, combine apples, and sugar mixture.
  • Stir until all slices are coated with sugar.
  • Spoon into pie shell.
  • Sprinkle with 2 T.
  • orange juice and dot with butter.
  • Cover with top crust.
  • Bake 50 minutes.
  • Mix glaze and spoon over pie while still hot.

1 package refrigerated pillsbury pie crust
3/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons flour
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon salt
6 cups sliced peeled tart apples (about 5 medium)
3 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons orange juice
1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
4 1/2 teaspoons orange juice
1/2 teaspoon grated orange peel

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Line a 9 inch pie plate with one of the crusts from the purchased package.
  • In a large bowl, combine the sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt.
  • Add apples, toss to coat.
  • Spoon apple mixture into crust.
  • Dot with butter, sprinkle with orange juice.
  • Place second crust over filling; trim, seal and flute edges.

4-1/2 tsp orange juice

  • 1. IN A LARGE BOWL, COMBINE SUGAR, FLOUR, CINNAMON AND SALT. ADD APPLES AND RAISINS; TOSS TO COAT. LINE A 9 IN. PIE PLATE WITH BOTTOM PASTRY, TRIM TO 1 IN. BEYOND EDGE OF PLATE. SPOON APPLE MIXTURE ONTO CRUST. DOT WITH BUTTER; SPRINKLE WITH ORANGE JUICE.

A good, easy, yummy glaze that can be used on chicken or turkey. I came up with this a few years ago for Thanksgiving, to change up the old boring turkey. Everyone loved it. There was no left-over turkey that year.

1 cup orange juice
1 cup packed dark brown sugar
1 (16 ounce) can jellied cranberry sauce
1 (3 inch) cinnamon stick

Steps:

  • Mix together the orange juice, brown sugar, and cranberry sauce in a saucepan, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil, drop in the cinnamon stick, and reduce heat to a simmer. Cook, stirring frequently, until the cranberry sauce is melted and the glaze is hot and bubbling, about 10 minutes.
  • To use: brush the glaze all over a roasted turkey during the last 45 minutes of cooking. Return the turkey to the oven and bake for 10 to 15 minutes to set the glaze. Repeat several more times before the end of cooking time.
