OLD-FASHIONED SOUTHERN BUTTER ROLLS

Steps:

• Preheat oven to 350. Grease a large baking dish; set aside.
• In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut shortening in until mixture looks like course crumbs. Add water, and stir just until combined. Use your hands to press dough together until it forms a ball.
• Turn out onto a floured surface, and roll dough out into a large rectangle. The dough should be rolled fairly thinly, like you would dough for cinnamon rolls. Spread butter evenly over the top, then sprinkle with 1/4 cup sugar and nutmeg. Roll up tightly, and pinch ends to seal. Cut into 12 equal slices. Place cut side down in baking dish.
• In a saucepan, heat 2/3 cup sugar, milk, and vanilla until bubbles form. Remove from heat, and pour over top of rolls. Bake 30-40 minutes.
• *Note: These rolls can also be made without the milk sauce if you'd like, with a little milk or cream being poured over individual servings instead.

Stir in milk. 2.On a floured surface, dump out dough and press together with your hands to form a ball. 3.Roll out into a rectangle (about 7×10 in size). Spread softened butter over dough and then sprinkle 1/4 cup sugar and cinnamon over top. Roll it up like a jelly roll and press it together lightly. 4.Cut into nine slices about one inch thick each. Place into a lightly greased 8×8 baking dish. 5.In medium sauce pot, combine all milk sauce ingredients. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture begins to bubble lightly. Pour over rolls in pan. 6.Bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes, or until rolls are lightly browned on top. 7.Allow to sit for a few minutes once it is done for the rolls to soak up more sauce. After you put each roll on a plate, spoon more sauce over it.

Steps:

• Pre heat oven to 350 degrees.
• Place stick of margarine in a 9X13 casserole dish (I prefer metal over glass for this recipe).
• Mix together all of the ingredients for the batter and pour over the melted margarine. DO NOT MIX!
• In a different bowl, mix all the ingredients for the sauce and then pour it over the batter. Again, DO NOT MIX.
• Bake for 35 to 40 minutes. Serve it warm with vanilla ice cream!

Steps:

• Leaving dough in tube form, cut into 8 rolls.
• Arrange rolls in large casserole dish.
• Mix milk, sugar, and butter; pour over rolls.
• Bake at 350 until rolls are golden brown. Serve warm!
