NANA KATIE'S IRISH SODA BREAD

Nana Katie's Irish Soda Bread image

When I was growing up in the 1950's, my Irish Grandmother, Katie McDonald lived with us. March 17 was always a big occasion in our house, and about a week before St. Paddy's Day Nana's sister, Mamie Griffin would show up at the back door. We knew that meant..Soda Bread! They would bake all day and by 4 o'clock, there'd be Soda Bread on every surface in the kitchen! The sisters never measured, so my sister sat with them one day and before they dumped the ingredients in the bowl, she measured everything and produced a recipe that's been a family favorite for over 60 years.
