Monica's Japanese Garlic Dollop Shrimp image

This is a delightful Japanese-inspired shrimp recipe for garlic-lovers; served over rice or pasta or on it's own -- it's sure to make everyone scream, 'What's the recipe?!' I secured this sure-fire loads-o-goodness recipe while attempting to replicate something else entirely. Serve shrimps over freshly prepared rice or pasta with a salad, vegetable and/or hot bread and butter -- Happy Ending!

¾ cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons mirin
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons dried minced onion
¼ teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon curry powder
1 teaspoon ground turmeric
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
¼ teaspoon salt
½ cup seasoned dry bread crumbs
16 peeled and deveined jumbo shrimp, tails still attached
2 tablespoons sesame oil
¼ cup water

Steps:

  • Stir together the mayonnaise, soy sauce, mirin, minced garlic, dried minced onion, onion powder, curry powder, turmeric, basil, cayenne pepper, and salt in a bowl. Fold in the bread crumbs until evenly moistened. Cover, and refrigerate at least an hour.
  • Cut each shrimp along the back and open the halves like a book. Place a hearty dollop of the mayonnaise mixture onto each shrimp, and spread over the top to completely cover. Heat the sesame oil in a large skillet over high heat until it begins to smoke. Place the shrimp in the pan, mayonnaise-side up, and add the water. Cover, and steam until the shrimp are no longer transparent, 2 1/2 to 3 minutes.

Yes, almost the same as my other recipe but 100% better! A little change went a long way. It is the best, I promise! I have NEVER in my life had better shrimp. My whole family was in heaven. OK, enough tooting my own horn!

25 -30 large shrimp, raw and peeled (or jumbo)
3 tablespoons chopped garlic, fresh (see tip) or 3 tablespoons from a jars (see tip)
1 cup fresh parsley, chopped
2 teaspoons paprika
fresh ground sea salt, to taste (see tip)
fresh ground pepper, to taste
1/2 cup olive oil
2 tablespoons butter

Steps:

  • In a large Ziplock freezer bag, mix everything except the butter and swish it around good to coat all of the shrimp. Or, mix everything in a large bowl and cover TIGHTLY with Saran wrap.
  • Refrigerate for 1 hour.
  • Preheat large heavy bottom pan with the butter in it on medium. Toss shrimp around for about 10 minutes until pink and lightly browned.
  • TIPS: Do not substitute with garlic powder OR dried parsley! Sea salt is stronger than table salt so use less than normal. Table salt can be substituted.
  • Serve with steak or pasta with a white sauce.
  • I KNOW THIS IS VERY SIMILAR TO MY OTHER SHRIMP RECIPE, BUT I MADE IT THIS WAY TONIGHT AND IT WAS SO UNBELIEVABLE THAT I HAD TO POST IT! EVEN BETTER THAN MY OTHER SHRIMP RECIPE!

1 lb shrimp or 1 lb crayfish tail
1 tablespoon salt
1/2 teaspoon red peppers or 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 chopped shallots
2 pints whipping cream
1/2 teaspoon white pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
1/4-1/2 lb cooked pasta
garlic or garlic powder

Steps:

  • Saute shallots and seasonings with butter.
  • Add shrimp or crawfish and cook until pink.
  • (5-7 mins.) Add cooked pasta and whipping cream.
  • Cook to desired thickness.
  • (10-15 mins.) Serve immediately, great with bread.
