COLD VEGGIE SQUARES
This is a delicious and super easy appetizer to make. Served cold it is also sometimes called 'veggie pizza.'

Steps:
- Without separating the dough, roll out both packs of crescent rolls onto a baking sheet, forming them into a single, flat surface. Bake according to the directions on the package. Allow the finished rolls to cool.
- In a bowl, Mix together the cream cheese, mayonnaise, basil and garlic powder. Spread the mixture evenly over the surface of the rolls. Spread the broccoli, cauliflower and carrots on top of the cream cheese mixture. Sprinkle the salad seasoning mix over all. Cut into squares and serve.

MOM'S PISTACHIO SQUARES
My mother has been making this dessert for years now for parties, showers, potlucks, etc..always to rave reviews. These are nice & light as opposed to other rich desserts and are very yummy!

Steps:
- For 1st Layer: Cream butter,sugar& flour,add nuts.
- Press in a greased 9x13 pan.
- Bake 10 mins.
- at 325.
- For 2nd Layer: Mix cream cheese and sugar at high speed and blend in Cool Whip.
- Spread over COOLED first layer.
- For 3rd Layer: Mix pudding and milk and place in the fridge for 3 minutes and pour over second layer.
- Spread top of dessert with additional Cool Whip (500ml.) and sprinkle with chopped nuts.
MOM'S LEMON SQUARES
Another of Mom's great recipes. This is one that I haven't tried yet, but I certainly am going to try it soon!! I have to try all the recipes to remember the desserts, it's been so many years since I've had some of them.

- BASE: Sift together sugar, flour, baking powder and salt. Add butter and work with fingers until crumbly mixture forms.
- Mix together egg, milk and lemon flavoring.
- Add to flour mixture.
- press in 8-inch well greased pan.
- FILLING:.
- Mix together all ingredients. pour over base.
- Bake in 350F oven for 20-25 minutes or until top is beginning to turn slightly brown.

- Filling:.
- Combine all ingredients and simmer until thickened (don't burn) Set aside and cool.
- Base:.
- Lightly grease a 9x9-inch pan.
- Sift and mix together flour and soda.
- Combine sugar and oats to flour mixture.
- Work in butter with fingertips.
- Pat 1/2 of the mixture onto bottom of pan.
- Spread filling on patted mixture.
- Put remaining mixture on top of filling and pat lightly. Bake in 375°F oven for 45 minutes.
- Cut when cool.

- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- Unroll both tubes of crescent dough and pat into an ungreased 15x10x1-inch baking pan; seal seams and perforations.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
- Cool completely on a wire rack.
- Meanwhile, in a small mixing bowl, beat the cream cheeses, yogurt, mayo, milk, dill and garlic until smooth. Spread over crust.
- Sprinkle with carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, green pepper, mushrooms, olives and onion.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Cut into 24 squares and serve. Refrigerate leftovers.

ANITA'S MOM'S DATE SQUARES
I have not yet tried this, but it is from an overdue library book (From Our Mothers' Kitchens) and I want to return the book tomorrow, so need to get the recipes I want to try copied down, pronto. I love the idea of adding the orange juice and zest in with the dates in this old-fashioned recipe.

Steps:
- First, make filling.
- In a heavy saucepan, combine dates, sugar, water, orange juice and grated orange rind.
- Cover pot and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat and simmer, stirring frequently, until dates are tender and all the liquid is absorbed; this will take 15 to 20 minutes.
- Let mixture cool.
- Preheat oven to 375F; lightly grease a 9-inch square cake pan and set aside.
- To make crust, stir together flours, soda and oats.
- In a mixing bowl, cream butter and brown sugar together, then add in the flour mixture and stir until crumbly and moist.
- Pat two-thirds of the mixture into the prepared pan, then spread cooled filling evenly over this base.
- Sprinkle with remaining flour mixture, evenly over entire surface, and then pat in lightly.
- Bake in preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the edges just begin to turn golden.
- Let cool slightly before cutting into bars or squares.
