MILK BUTTER BOILED CORN ON THE COB

Milk Butter Boiled Corn on the Cob image

I love serving up my tasty milk butter boiled corn on the cob for any family meal but especially with something hot of the grill! It's just as easy as boiling or steaming corn on the cob, but this version is so superbly sweet and soft that you will make it your new 'go-to' method of cooking your corn!

Categories     Dinner Recipes     Side Dish

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 7

4 ears corn ((husks and silk removed))
water ((enough to cover the ears of corn))
1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup milk
6 Tbsp butter ((divided, 2 portions - 1/4 c and 2 Tbsp))
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp paprika ((optional))

Steps:

  • In a large stock pot, fill with enough water to just cover the ears of corn. Add the heavy cream, milk, 1/4 cup portion of the butter, and sugar then bring to a boil over medium high heat.
  • Reduce heat to low and simmer for 8-10 minutes, or until corn is tender. *The corn be added once a boil has been reached, if desired. Be careful of splattering water if choosing this method!
  • (Optional) Melt the remaining two tablespoons of butter and combine with the paprika. Set aside to brush onto the cooked corn on the cob when serving.
  • Remove from the stock pot and liquid. (Optional) Brush the melted butter and paprika onto the cooked corn on the cob with a basting brush.
  • Serve immediately, or cover with aluminum foil until ready to serve.

BUTTER BOILED CORN RECIPE - (4.1/5)

Butter Boiled Corn Recipe - (4.1/5) image

Provided by AuntieLo

Number Of Ingredients 3

Corn on the cob
1 stick butter
1 cup milk

Steps:

  • Fill a large pot about halfway with water. Bring water to a boil. Add milk and butter. Add corn and reduce heat. Simmer corn for 6 to 8 minutes Remove corn from cooking liquid and its ready to serve. Can it be that simple AND that delicious?! You better believe it can. The corn came out of the pot full of flavor. For once I didn't have to slather any butter on as the corn already had a rich buttery taste from the milk butter bath. I just added a little salt (you can add a dash of pepper, too, if you'd like) and it was some of the best corn I've tasted. It only took 13 minutes in total (five minutes to prep and eight minutes to cook) which was time well spent waiting for this unbelievably fresh and flavorful buttered corn. This is one of the quickest methods for cooking corn that I've ever come across, not to mention the easiest; you only need two very simple ingredients to completely elevate your corn on the cob experience. I would be willing to bet you have milk and butter sitting in your fridge right now. So you have no excuse to not try this upgrade corn. I'm definitely going to pull out this trick for my pot luck dish I'm bringing to a friend's Labor Day BBQ. What's your favorite way to cook corn? Boil, grill, or microwave? Also, do any of you add sugar? I've heard of some people adding a little but I find the corn I get is sweet enough. Share your favorite way to prepare corn in the comments section below.

THE BEST WAY TO COOK CORN ON THE COB

The Best Way to Cook Corn on the Cob image

Making Milk Butter Corn on the Cob by boiling corn on the cob in a mix of milk and butter makes some of the most delicious corn on the cob. Boiling corn on the cob in Milk and Butter is the best way to cook corn on the cob!

Provided by Angie - BigBearsWife.com

Categories     Side Dish

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 6

Water
1 stick unsalted butter
12 ears of corn
1 cup whole milk
2 tablespoons Garb & Herb Seasoning
Extra salt and pepper for afterwards (optional)

Steps:

  • Remove the husk from the corn on the cob. Pull off all of the silk.
  • Leave the corn on the cob full length or break them in half for smaller ears.
  • Fill a large stockpot about half way with water. Add in 1 cup of milk and 1 stick of butter.
  • Then sprinkle in about 1 or 2 tablespoons of your favorite garlic and herb seasoning.
  • Heat over medium to high heat and as soon as it starts to boil, add in the corn. Bring the heat down to about a medium and boil for about 20 minutes.
  • After 20 minutes, check one and see if it's tender and to your liking. If not, let it cook for 5 more minute and repeat the test.
  • I like to use a fork to test the kernels because I love soft, tender kernels. If you like for your corn on the cob to be a bit more crisp, you may not need to cook it as long.
  • When the corn is done to your liking, remove it from the boiling milk butter mixture and place it into a bowl or onto a serving plate.
  • Sprinkle with salt or let guest add their own salt and pepper.

  • If you are working with fresh corn you are going to want to first shuck the corn. To do this you simply pull the green husks down to the both of the corn. It can take a moment, and this is a messy process, so it's best to do this with two hands over a garbage can.
  • You can either leave the cobs whole or you can break them in half, they'll take the same amount of cooking time either way.
