COPYCAT KFC COLESLAW: THE REAL THING

Copycat KFC Coleslaw: the Real Thing image

I am an avid collector of recipes. A young lady, a former KFC employee, was looking at my recipes one evening when she discovered this one. She told me that the recipe was close, but that I should remove the vinegar and lemon juice and replace them with tarragon vinegar. Tarragon vinegar is the secret. Note: This is one of the recipes I adopted in the Great 'Zaar Orphan Adoption of 2005. I hope you enjoy it.

  • Mix oil, onions and sugar.
  • Add tarragon vinegar.
  • Fold in Miracle Whip.
  • Pour over grated carrots and cabbage.

SOUTHERN COLESLAW

Southern Coleslaw image

Classic southern coleslaw is the creamiest coleslaw ever! Sweet and tangy with a rich dressing. Be sure to keep it refrigerated or on ice if you're eating outside. This contains mayo and summer heat doesn't play well with it.

Provided by Marye Audet-White

Categories     Side Dish

Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 11

1/2 cup onion (chopped - optional)
14 ounces coleslaw mix
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup cultured buttermilk (do not use milk + vinegar or lemon juice)
1/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons cider vinegar (use less if you don't want it so tangy)
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper (freshly ground)
1/2 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
6-8 cups cabbage (shredded)
1 1/2 cups carrots (shredded)

Steps:

  • Stir cabbage and carrots together gently to combine. It's pretty to use some purple cabbage for some of the green cabbage.
  • Whisk all the dressing ingredients together in a large bowl.
  • Pour over the coleslaw mix.
  • Stir well to be sure all the cabbage is coated with dressing.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.

KFC COLESLAW

KFC Coleslaw image

This is the recipe I have for this delicious coleslaw. I have had it about 42 years- was confirmed by my husband when he was there 15 years ago. He was the cook. I know there are many posted here - but this is from the cabbage patch itself. LOL

Provided by Pat Duran

Categories     Salads

Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 11

6 c cabbage sliced paper thin
1/4 c granulated sugar
1/4 c finely shredded carrots
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/2 c milk
1 c mayonnaise not salad dressing
1/2 c dairy buttermilk
1/2 tsp celery seed
2 or 3 dash(es) hot pepper sauce
3 Tbsp dry minced onions

Steps:

  • 1. Toss cabbage lightly with sugar, and carrots. Sprinkle with salt, pepper and drench it all with the milk. Cover and refrigerate it about 15 minutes. While this is chilling combine the mayonnaise, buttermilk.celery seed hot sauce and minced onions. Mix well with cabbage mixture. Refrigerate again at least an hour before serving. Drain some of the dressing first and serve it separately at the table. The coleslaw does settle quite a bit during refrigeration. Keeps 24 hours only. If it lasts that long. The technique is the secret along with the buttermilk and seasonings.

KFC COLESLAW (COPYCAT)

KFC Coleslaw (Copycat) image

This copycat KFC coleslaw is crunchy, creamy, and has the perfect amount of sweetness. It's a homemade side dish that will perfectly complete any meal.

Provided by Jennifer Fishkind

Categories     Side Dish

Time 45m

Number Of Ingredients 11

½ head of cabbage (finely chopped (about 4 cups))
½ medium carrot (finely chopped)
2 tbsp buttermilk
4¼ tsp white vinegar
1½ tbsp onion (finely chopped)
2 tbsp whole milk
¼ cup mayonnaise
2 tsp lemon juice
4 tsp sugar
¼ tsp salt
⅜ tsp pepper

Steps:

  • Using a food processor, chop cabbage, pulsing until finely chopped. It might be helpful to work in small batches to make sure the cabbage isn't pulverized but just chopped up into small squares. The same can be done with the carrot. Place cabbage and carrot in a medium bowl.
  • In a separate small bowl, combine the rest of the ingredients. Mix until smooth. Pour over cabbage/carrot mixture and stir. Don't be concerned if it seems a bit dry at first. The moisture from the cabbage will be drawn out before too long.
  • Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving. This allows for the dressing as well as the moisture from the cabbage to meld well. Stir before serving.

This KFC Coleslaw Recipe is as close as you can get without actually ordering it from the restaurant directly. The taste is simply perfect!

Provided by Amy

Categories     Side Dish

Time 12h20m

Number Of Ingredients 11

1/4 cup finely chopped carrot
2 1/2 tablespoons very finely minced yellow onion

1/4 cup buttermilk
2 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 1/2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground pepper

Steps:

  • Chop the vegetables very fine: the cabbage, carrots, and onions are all chopped very fine, almost like the size of rice. You can chop them with a sharp knife, or if you have a food processor with a shredding attachment, use that and then finely chop with a sharp knife. (See note about using a pre-shredded coleslaw mix.)
  • In a large bowl, combine all the ingredients for the dressing. Whisk until smooth.
  • Add in cabbage, carrots, and onion; mix well until everything is thoroughly coated.
  • Cover and refrigerate overnight. (If you have time - and can remember! - stir it occasionally. This will give you the absolute best results.) Stir again before serving and enjoy!

  • Transfer the coleslaw to a gallon sized ziplock bag. Store in the fridge, but periodically take it out give it another gently shake, then store it flipped over on the other side.
  • One of the tips to getting the coleslaw to taste just like KFC's is to let the coleslaw recipe sit overnight before serving. I recommend making the salad at least 6-8 hours ahead of time!
