A sharp tech can decarbon the motor, check compression and leak-down, test the recirculation valves, fittings, and hoses, test for proper idle temps, synchronize the throttle linkages and the spark pickup point, and check over the intake manifold assembly, carbs, and the fuel system for air leaks. Jun 10, 2005 My father's boat has a Johnson 150 Fast Strike on it. I was wondering what the max recommended RPM is for this engine. Does this outboard have a rev limiter? If so where is it set to come on? Oh, by the way, it's a 1991 model. Max RPM is 5500 according to the specs, I think the rev limit is around 6500 but do not try to turn this motor to that RPM. Mar 16, 2014 On your engine, I'd expect factory numbers to be 126-128 on the top 4 and around 110 on the bottom two. You may want to run a can of Bombardier Engine Tuner through the engine-as your mechanic recommended. It may increase the compression slightly to bring them closer to "normal" compression ranges. Aug 17, 2010 These V6 engines seem to be very touchy. My 1996 175 HP does it sometimes (only the port side engine), and the other engine stalls a lot when shifting at the dock. I read that it could be warped carbs. Today I screwed with the idle mixtures. We'll see if that helps. From forums.iboats.com
