Meatball-stuffed Garlic Bread Recipe by Tasty image

Here's what you need: baguette, ground beef, bread crumbs, fresh parsley, salt, pepper, egg, mozzarella cheese, marinara sauce, butter, garlic, fresh parsley, grated parmesan cheese

Provided by Alix Traeger

Categories     Appetizers

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 baguette
1 lb ground beef
¼ cup bread crumbs
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
½ tablespoon salt
½ tablespoon pepper
1 egg
10 slices mozzarella cheese
marinara sauce
3 tablespoons butter, melted
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (180˚C).
  • In a medium bowl, mix the ground beef, bread crumbs, parsley, egg, salt, and pepper.
  • Pinch off a ball of the mixture, roll between your hands to make ping-pong ball-sized meatballs.
  • Cook the meatballs over medium heat, turning to brown each side. Remove from heat and drain on a paper towel.
  • Slice the baguette into thirds or fourths (each baguette piece should be roughly the same length of two meatballs).
  • Hollow out the insides of the baguette pieces with a knife.
  • Lay two slices of mozzarella on top of each other with a 1-inch (2 cm) overlap. Place two meatballs on the overlapping region, then fold the mozzarella tightly around the meatballs.
  • Push the rolled meatballs and cheese into a baguette piece.
  • Slice the stuffed baguette pieces into 1-inch (2 cm) slices, then place them tightly side-by-side on a baking sheet lined with foil.
  • In a small bowl, mix together ingredients for garlic butter.
  • Brush the garlic butter evenly over the baguette slices, making sure some drips in between the slices.
  • Wrap the foil over the re-assembled baguette and bake for 15-20 minutes, until cheese is melted and the top is starting to brown.
  • Remove the foil and serve with marinara.
  • Enjoy!

GARLIC ITALIAN MEATBALLS...FOR A CROWD!

Garlic Italian Meatballs...for a Crowd! image

These meatballs are simple, versatile, and packed with savory, garlicky flavor! YUM!! Use them for spaghetti, meatball sandwiches, Italian wedding soup, baked ziti...I think this recipe will serve 35 people. :-) It would also freeze well for those of you who do OAMC. The lady who gave me this recipe used to be a caterer, and she told me that one of her clients said these were better than his Italian wife's own meatballs! I guess that's saying something. Anyway, I really like these, and if you love garlic, so will you! Cooking time is for one batch of meatballs, but of course it will take longer to make all of them. Prep time doesn't include peeling and mincing the three heads of garlic, which is admittedly a somewhat lengthy process. Oh well, it's certainly worth it!!

Provided by A Messy Cook

Categories     Poultry

Time 30m

Yield 200 meatballs, 35 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

3 lbs lean ground beef
3 lbs ground turkey
2 cups finely grated parmesan cheese or 2 cups romano cheese
3 heads garlic, peeled and minced
1 1/2 cups fresh breadcrumbs
1 1/2 cups milk
6 eggs
1/2-3/4 cup chopped flat-leaf Italian parsley
1 1/2 tablespoons salt
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients and mix thoroughly.
  • Shape into meatballs by tablespoons, and bake on sprayed cookie sheet for 10 minutes at 350 degrees.
  • If a little "puddle" forms on the cookie sheet, don't worry -- it's just oil from the cheese and meat, and aren't you glad that it came out of the meatballs instead of staying in?! You can get rid of this excess fat by removing cooked meatballs to a dish lined with paper towels.
  • ENJOY!

ITALIAN-AMERICAN MEATBALLS

Italian-American Meatballs image

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Categories     main-dish

Time 1h10m

Yield 18 meatballs

Number Of Ingredients 24

2 slices white sandwich bread, stale and crusts removed (see note)
1/2 pound ground pork
1/2 pound ground veal
1/2 pound ground beef chuck
1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan
1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons grated Pecorino Romano
1/4 cup chopped flat-leaf parsley
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1/2 medium onion, grated (about 1/4 cup)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 large egg, beaten
Freshly ground black pepper to taste
1/3 cup olive oil, divided
3 cups QUICK MARINARA SAUCE, recipe follows
1 pound cooked spaghetti or linquini
Hero rolls for sandwiches
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1/4 medium onion, diced (about 3 tablespoons)
3 cloves garlic, chopped
3 1/2 cups whole, peeled, canned tomatoes in puree, (one 28-ounce can), roughly chopped
Sprig of fresh thyme
Sprig of fresh basil
2 teaspoons kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Grate the bread or pulse into crumbs in a food processor. In a small bowl toss the breadcrumbs with 1/3 cup cold water to re-hydrate.
  • In a large bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, pork, veal, beef, Parmesan, Pecorino, parsley, salt, onion, garlic, and egg and mix until combined. Season the meat mixture with pepper.
  • Using your hands, gently form the meat mixture into 18 slightly larger than golf ball-sized balls. (Packing the meat mixture too tightly together will result in tough meatballs). Refrigerate for at least an hour or up to 24.
  • Heat half the oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add half of the meatballs and cook, turning occasionally, until well browned on all sides, about 6 minutes. Transfer the meatballs to a plate. Drain the oil and wipe out the skillet, return to the heat, and repeat with the remaining oil and meatballs.
  • Drain and wipe out the skillet again. Return all the meatballs to the skillet and pour in the marinara sauce. Bring to a boil, lower the heat, and simmer, covered, swirling the pan occasionally, until the meatballs are cooked through about 15 minutes. The cheese in the meatballs will start to melt when the meatballs are ready. Serve immediately with spaghetti or on sandwiches. These meatballs can be stored, covered in the refrigerator for 3 days, or frozen for up to 6 weeks.
  • Heat the oil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Saute the onion and garlic, stirring, until lightly browned, about 3 minutes. Add the tomatoes and the herb sprigs and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and simmer, covered, for 10 minutes.
  • Remove and discard the herb sprigs. Stir in the salt and season with pepper to taste. Use now, or store covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 2 months.
