ITALIAN CHEESE STICKS

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 sheet frozen puff pastry (from a 17.3-ounce package, such as Pepperidge Farm), thawed in the refrigerator
2 tablespoons salted butter, melted
1 cup grated mozzarella (hard, not fresh)
3/4 cup grated Parmesan
2 tablespoons chopped fresh oregano
1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
1 large egg
Warm marinara, for serving

Steps:

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment.
  • Lightly roll out the sheet of pastry into a 10-by-12-inch rectangle, then brush with the melted butter. Sprinkle over the mozzarella, 1/2 cup of the Parmesan, the oregano and basil. Using a rolling pin, press the cheese into the pastry. Cut the 12-inch side of the pastry into 12 strips. Twist each strip about 5 times and transfer to the prepared baking sheet. Place in the freezer for 20 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Mix together the egg and 1 teaspoon water in a small bowl. Brush the strips with the egg mixture and sprinkle over the remaining 1/4 cup Parmesan. Bake until golden brown and puffed, 10 to 12 minutes. Let cool before removing from the baking sheet. Serve the cheese sticks with warm marinara alongside.

4 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese (from the can)
2 1/2 teaspoons dried Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 lb frozen bread dough, thawed
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 tablespoon kosher salt

Steps:

  • Combine first 3 ingredients.
  • Cut dough into 24 pieces. Roll each piece into a 12-inch rope. Sprinkle evenly with Parmesan mixture.
  • Place ropes, 1-inch apart, on lightly greased baking sheets. COver with plastic wrap and let rise at room temp for 20 minutes.
  • Bake at 350°F for 15 minutes or until golden. Brush with melted butter, and sprinkle with kosher salt. Cool on wire rack 10 minutes.

Steps:

  • Combine parmesan, asiago, herbs, & garlic; set aside.
  • Cut dough into 24 pieces. Roll & twist each piece into 12-inch rope.
  • Sprinkle with cheese mixture.
  • Place ropes, 1-inch apart, on lightly greased baking sheet.
  • Preheat oven to 350F.
  • Cover with saran wrap or towel and let rise 20 minutes.
  • Bake 15 minutes until golden. Brush with olive oil, and sprinkle with salt.

1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
1-1/2 cups warm water (110° to 115°)
1/2 cup warm 2% milk (110° to 115°)
3 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons butter, melted
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
4-1/2 to 5-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
TOPPING:
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
4-1/2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon garlic powder

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and milk. Add the sugar, butter, salt, baking soda and 3 cups flour. Beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a firm dough., Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour. , Turn onto a lightly floured surface; cover and let rest for 10 minutes. Divide into 32 pieces. Shape each into a 4-1/2-in. rope., Place melted butter in a shallow bowl. Place cheese in a second shallow bowl. Dip ropes in butter, then coat with cheese. 2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
3-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1 cup 2% milk
1/3 cup butter, melted
1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, combine the first five ingredients. Gradually add milk, tossing with a fork until dough forms a ball. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; knead 8-10 times., Roll dough into a 14x10-in. rectangle. Cut in half lengthwise; cut each half widthwise into 1-in. strips. Place butter in a shallow bowl.
