Instant Pot Cabbage Stew with Ground Beef is low-carb, hearty, filling, and made with a few basic ingredients. Perfect for weeknight dinners!

2 tablespoons olive oil
1 sweet onion (diced)
4 cloves garlic (minced)
1 1/2 lbs ground beef
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 15 oz can fire-roasted tomatoes
1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 tablespoon sweet paprika (or smoked paprika)
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon oregano
1 green cabbage (medium to large, core removed and roughly chopped)
2 cups beef broth (or chicken broth)
salt and pepper (to taste)

Steps:

  • Turn on the Saute function wait for it to display Hot and add the olive oil. Add the onion once the oil is hot and cook, stirring for 3-4 minutes.
  • Add the garlic and stir for 30 seconds. Add the beef and brown it, breaking it with a wooden spoon, until no longer pink and with brown bits, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients and stir to combine.
  • Close and lock the lid, point the valve to Sealing and Pressure Cook for 10 minutes, followed by a 5 minutes NPR.
  • Once the pressure was released open the IP, give the stew a good stir and serve.

1½ pounds ground beef, 93% lean
8 ounces button mushrooms (finely diced)
1 cup onion (chopped)
½ cup green pepper (chopped)
1 clove garlic (minced)
1 teaspoon THM Himalayan mineral salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
15 ounces tomatoes, canned (no sugar added)
8 ounces tomato sauce (no sugar added)
16 cups cabbage (cored and chopped into ¾ inch pieces)

Steps:

  • Set your Instant Pot to saute, normal temp. When pot reads hot add ground beef and brown until no longer pink.
  • Stir in chopped onion, continue sauteing until the onion is translucent; add garlic, green pepper and mushrooms saute for 2 to 3 minutes more..
  • Add salt, pepper and diced canned tomatoes.. Stir and scrape deglazing any bits that have formed on the bottom of the liner.
  • Add tomato sauce and chopped cabbage, do not stir. Hit cancel on your pot. Cover with lid; lock into place.
  • Turn vent to sealing. Set the pot using manual or pressure cook for 4 minutes.
  • After the pot beeps manually release remaining pressure. Once pressure pin drops, unlock lid, remove and stir.
  • E meal - use 96% lean ground beef or venison; you can use up to a tablespoon of refined coconut oil to saute your meat. Add ¾ cup of brown rice and a non-starchy veggie like green beans to complete your E meal.
  • FP meal - use 96% lean ground beef or venison; you can use up to a tablespoon of refined coconut oil to saute your meat. Add a non-starchy veggie like greens beans to complete your FP meal.

1 head of cabbage (cut into 2-inch pieces)
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 cup water
Salt and pepper to taste

Steps:

  • Pour water in the Instant Pot and add cabbage. Sprinkle cabbage with garlic powder. Close the lid and turn the valve to Sealing position.
  • Press the "Pressure Cook" or "Manual" button and set the time to 5 minutes on High pressure for firmer cabbage (or 10 minutes for really soft cabbage).
  • When the Instant Pot is done cooking, quick release (QR) the steam, drain the cabbage, sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste and serve.

1 pound ground beef
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 cup chopped carrot
1 cup chopped Yukon Gold potato
½ onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, chopped
8 cups water
1 (14.5 ounce) can Italian-style stewed tomatoes, drained and diced
½ head cabbage, cored and coarsely chopped
8 teaspoons vegetable bouillon base (such as Better Than Bouillon®)
1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
½ teaspoon ground black pepper, or to taste

Steps:

  • Turn on a multi-functional pressure cooker (such as Instant Pot®) and select Saute function for medium heat. When the display reads "Hot," add olive oil to coat the bottom of the pot. Add beef, oregano, and thyme; cook and stir until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks, 5 to 7 minutes. Add carrot, potato, onion, and garlic. Cook to soften, stirring frequently, about 5 minutes. Turn off Saute mode.
  • Stir water, tomatoes with their juices, cabbage, vegetable base, salt, and pepper into the pot. Stir briefly together.
  • Close and lock the lid. Select high pressure according to manufacturer's instructions; set timer for 20 minutes. Allow 10 to 15 minutes for pressure to build.
  • Release pressure using the natural-release method according to manufacturer's instructions for 15 minutes. Release remaining pressure carefully using the quick-release method according to manufacturer's instructions, about 5 minutes. Unlock and remove the lid; stir. Serve while hot.

Quick and delicious cabbage and hamburger one dish meal. This is probably my favorite fast meal to cook. My mother used to make it as I was growing up and it's one of my fathers favorite meals and mine also. Now my wife counts it as one of her favorites and asks for it often. Our 3 year old also devours it...one of a very small number of meals that he really enjoys. It was the first meal I learned to cook while in college. It gave an easy "taste of home". It's a quick and easy healthy meal for the family. You don't really need any side dishes but I serve it with corn from time to time.

1 lb extra lean ground beef
1 head of cabbage
1 (14 ounce) can stewed tomatoes
1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce

Steps:

  • Brown the ground beef dry in a large non stick pan.
  • While the beef is cooking remove the stem from the cabbage and quarter it. You can leave it quartered if wanted, I do from time to time but I like it better when I slice the cabbage. I usually take the quarters and slice it into relatively thin 1/2" strips. It cooks quicker that way.
  • After the beef has been browned add the cabbage, can of stewed tomatoes and the soy sauce. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes or until the cabbage is done. Don't add any water as the cabbage will release plenty as it cooks. Enjoy!
