FLIGHT TO HONG KONG CHICKEN WINGS

Flight to Hong Kong Chicken Wings image

Healthier chicken wings that are baked, not fried, but still delicious. Prep time doesn't include marinading time because you can marinate 10 minutes to 24 hours.

Provided by Hey Jude

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 1h

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 cup light soy sauce
1 cup rice wine
1 cup water
10 green onions, trimmed and sliced into 2 inch pieces and then smashed lightly
10 cloves garlic, peeled and smashed lightly
2 -3 inches ginger, peeled, cut into chunks and smashed a bit
3 lbs chicken wings, rinsed and drained

Steps:

  • Combine all ingredients, except chicken wings, together in a saucepan and heat to boiling; reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes, then let cool slightly.
  • Cut the wings by slicing the drumettes from the rest of the wing (I leave the tip on, some people like those) and place the pieces in a bowl and pour the warm marinade over them; marinate for several hours or, preferably, overnight, in the fridge.
  • Preheat your oven to 500°; line a jelly-roll pan (cookie sheet with sides) with foil (I use that new, nonstick foil, it's great), spray with non-stick spray, and arrange the wings in a single layer, use an extra sheet if necessary.
  • Brush wings liberally with marinade then roast for about 40 minutes, turning once, until the wings are cooked and crispy brown at the edges.
  • You can serve these hot, cold or room temperature and they're delicious, or serve as part of a main meal with rice and a vegetable.

CRISPY HONEY GARLIC CHICKEN WINGS

Crispy Honey Garlic Chicken Wings image

Make and share this Crispy Honey Garlic Chicken Wings recipe from Food.com.

Provided by gailanng

Categories     Chicken

Time 1h

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 14

2 tablespoons olive oil
3 -4 garlic cloves, minced
1 cup honey
1/4 cup soya sauce
1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
2 cups flour
2 tablespoons powdered ginger
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
salt
1 tablespoon fresh ground black pepper
2 eggs, slightly beaten
4 tablespoons cold water
3 lbs chicken wings, trimmed and cut into sections
vegetable oil

Steps:

  • For the sauce: In a medium sauce pan, cook over medium heat the olive oil and garlic to slightly soften; do not let it brown. Add the honey, soya sauce and black pepper. Continue to cook over medium heat and simmer sauce for 5-10 minutes, watching carefully as it simmers because it can foam up and overflow. Remove from heat and allow to cool thoroughly; set aside.
  • The coating: Mix together the 'coating mixture'; set aside.
  • The wash: In a seperate bowl, whisk together the slightly beaten eggs and cold water.
  • Wash and pat dry the wing sections. Dip the wing pieces into the egg wash and then toss into the flour mixture to evenly coat.
  • Drop the coated wings into a preheated 350 degree F deep fryer, filled with vegetable oil.
  • Fry until golden brown, about 15-20 min depending on the size of the wing pieces. While still hot out of the oil, toss the wing pieces in a large bowl with some of the honey garlic sauce.

HONG KONG HONEY-GLAZED WINGS

Hong Kong Honey-Glazed Wings image

Number Of Ingredients 6

12 chicken wings, whole (2 1/2 to 3 pounds)
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoons black pepper, freshly ground
1 teaspoon Accent (MSG optional)
1/2 cup honey, for brushing

Steps:

  • 1. Rinse the chicken wings under cold running water, then drain and blot dry with paper towels. Make 2 or 3 deep slashes, to the bone, in the meaty part of each wing. Place the wings in a large bowl and sprinkle with the garlic, salt, pepper, and Accent (if using). Turn the wings to coat with the seasonings, then cover and let marinate, in the refrigerator, for 2 to 4 hours.2. Preheat the grill to medium high.3. When ready to cook, oil the grill grate. Heat the honey just to warm in a small saucepan on the side burner of the grill, if you have one, or over low heat on the stovetop. Thread each chicken wing on a skewer, running the skewer through all three sections to hold the wing open as wide as possible. Arrange the wings on the hot grate and grill, turning with tongs, until the thicker wing sections are no longer pink near the bone, 12 to 16 minutes in all, brushing the wings during the last 4 minutes of grilling with the warm honey.4. Transfer the wings to a serving platter and serve at once.Makes 12 whole wings serves 4 to 6 as an appetizer
