STICKY HONEY SOY CHICKEN - BAKED

Sticky Honey Soy Chicken - baked image

Recipe video above. This is still the best, EASIEST sticky honey soy chicken recipe I have come across. And I've tried many over the years! Marginally adapted from this recipe by Sprinkles and Sprouts. The sauce is very thin when you put it together and gets even thinner while baking, but miraculously, it suddenly thickens into an incredible glaze to squidge the chicken in. It's salty and sweet with a lovely hit of sesame. Please do not double the recipe or sauce, this will prevent the sauce from reducing down to the sticky glaze you see pictured.

Categories     Chicken     Dinner

Time 55m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1.2kg / 2.4lb bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs OR drumsticks ((5 - 6 pieces) (Note 1))
1 red onion (, peeled, cut into wedges)
3 cloves garlic (, minced)
3 tbsp honey
3 tbsp soy sauce ((Note 2))
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar (or ordinary white vinegar)
1 tsp sesame oil
1/2 tsp black pepper
Sesame seeds
Fresh coriander/cilantro leaves ((or other green things like green onion, parsley, chives))

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 200°C/390°F (180°C fan).
  • Line pan: Line a baking dish with foil then baking paper. The baking tray should fit the chicken comfortably, not too spaced apart (glaze will dry out), not too snug (glaze won't thicken enough). (Note 3)
  • Glaze: Mix the Glaze ingredients together.
  • Pour glaze over chicken: Place onion and chicken in the baking dish skin side down, then pour the Glaze over.
  • Bake 50 - 60 minutes: Bake for 25 minutes, then turn and bake for a further 25 to 35 minutes, until the chicken is browned and the glaze is sticky. If the glaze is not syrupy, remove the chicken to a plate and put the pan back in for a few minutes (it will reduce quickly).
  • Squidge/coat chicken - Turn chicken and squidge in the glaze, then also spoon it over.
  • Serve! Serve with rice and steamed greens, sprinkled with sesame seeds and fresh cilantro/coriander leaves.

HONEY GLAZED CHICKEN

An easy and delicious twist to classic roast chicken

Provided by Good Food team

Categories     Dinner, Lunch, Main course

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 4

2 chicken breasts
half a lemon
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp dark soy sauce

Steps:

  • Put 2 chicken breasts, skin side up in a small baking dish and season.
  • Squeeze the lemon into a bowl and stir in the honey and soy sauce. Spoon the mixture over the chicken, then tuck the squeezed-out half of lemon between the pieces (this will moisten and add flavour to the chicken).
  • Roast the chicken breasts in a baking dish, uncovered, for 30-35 minutes in a preheated oven (190C/gas 5/fan oven 170C). Cook until done and richly glazed, basting with the juices at least twice. To check if they are done, prod the chicken with your finger - if it's still a bit soft, give it a bit longer.
  • Serve with salad and potatoes roasted with herbs and garlic.

HONEY AND SOY SAUCE MARINADE

Honey and Soy Sauce Marinade image

This is a lovely marinade for barbecued or fried chicken. I usually use it for chicken breasts cut into not too thin stripes which I cook on a table barbecue. Most raclette gadgets in Switzerland also include a barbecue facility. In the winter I like to invite people for a raclette and table barbecue evening and the marinated chicken stripes are always part of it. Everybody loves them! I found this marinade in a chicken cooking book and there they recommend it in particular for chicken thighs meat (bones removed). I'm sure it will be nice with whatever part of chicken you fancy. Just remember that the bigger the parts you want to fry/barbecue, the longer the meat should be in the marinade. You may even want to marinate your meat overnigt.

Time 2h5m

Yield 170 ml, 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

90 g honey
60 ml soy sauce
1 garlic clove, crushed
2 tablespoons sake (rice wine)
1/2 teaspoon Chinese five spice powder
500 g chicken meat (1 lb)

Steps:

  • Mix all ingredients for marinade.
  • Pour marinade over chicken meat. Make sure every part of meat is covered.
  • Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnigt.
  • Try this: You may want to put marinade and meat into a plastic bag, tie the bag together and turn it from time to time while in the fridge.

HONEY-AND-SOY-GLAZED CHICKEN THIGHS

Honey-and-Soy-Glazed Chicken Thighs image

In this simple weeknight recipe, chicken thighs are tossed with a sweet-salty glaze made of honey and soy sauce that caramelizes into a sticky coating as it roasts in the oven. Serve the sliced chicken with bibb lettuce cups for wrapping, or over steamed rice to catch all the juices. Leftovers can be chopped and combined with vegetables for a tasty clean-out-the-fridge fried rice.

Time 45m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 tablespoons canola oil
1 tablespoon minced garlic
1 tablespoon minced ginger
6 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce (see tip)
5 tablespoons mild honey, such as clover, acacia or orange blossom
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
Kosher salt and black pepper
8 small bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs (about 3 pounds)
Lemon wedges, for serving

Steps:

  • Heat the oven to 425 degrees. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a small saucepan over low heat. Add the garlic and ginger and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, 3 minutes. Add the soy sauce and honey and simmer, stirring occasionally, until reduced and slightly thickened, about 10 minutes. (You'll want to cook attentively for this step, as the syrupy mixture can burn if it cooks too long.) Turn off the heat then whisk in the butter. Season with salt and pepper.
  • On an aluminum foil-lined rimmed baking sheet, season the chicken all over with salt and pepper. Add half the glaze and the remaining 1 tablespoon oil and toss the chicken to coat. Arrange in an even layer, skin side up, and roast until browned, 15 minutes. Brush the chicken all over with 2 tablespoons of the remaining glaze. Roast until golden and cooked through, about 10 minutes.
  • Drizzle the chicken with the remaining glaze and serve with lemon wedges.
