HAWAIIAN PIZZA DIP

Hawaiian Pizza Dip image

You might have opinions as to whether pineapple and ham belong on a pizza, but you can't deny that they belong in this dip, which is filled with cheese and bacon. Serve it up with pizza scoops.

Provided by Food.com

Categories     Ham

Time 23m

Yield 4-6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 16

1 pineapple, halved through the stem
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 small red onion, small diced
6 ounces Canadian bacon, diced
3 tablespoons canned chopped green chilies
8 ounces cream cheese, diced
3 tablespoons sour cream
1 cup grated mozzarella cheese, divided
1/2 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
4 slices thick cut bacon, cooked and crumbled
4 tablespoons sliced scallions, divided
1/2 cup canola oil
1 (13 7/8 ounce) can pizza dough
1 jalapeno pepper, cut into thin rounds
kosher salt
ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to broil. Scoop the flesh from the pineapple halves, getting as close to the edge as possible. Discard the tough center and chop the fruit. You should have about 1 1/2 cups chopped pineapple.
  • In a medium skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Cook onions until soft and translucent, about 3-5 minutes. Stir in diced canadian bacon and cook for another 2 minutes. Add chilis, cream cheese, sour cream, 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella and shredded cheddar cheese to the pan. Stir to melt completely. Stir in half of the bacon, 2 tablespoons chopped scallions and 1/2 cup chopped pineapple. Spoon into prepared pineapple halves and top with remaining 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese.
  • Place pineapples on a baking sheet and broil until dip is bubbling and top is golden, about 5-8 minutes. Garnish with 2 tablespoons scallions, remaining chopped pineapple, remaining bacon and jalapeno slices.
  • To make pizza chips, heat canola oil in a skillet to 350 degrees on a deep fry thermometer. Unroll pizza dough and cut into 2-inch pieces or triangles. Working in batches, fry dough until golden and crisp, about 2 minutes per side. Drain on a towel-lined plate. Serve on the side of dip.

HAWAIIAN FRUIT DIP

This is really flavorful; I have served with pineapple chunks, sliced apples & grapes. I make this with skim milk & low-fat sour cream. I added the food coloring in response to a previous reviewer saying it looked like just vanilla pudding. This is a RecipeZaar account adoptee, from Feb. 2005.

HAWAIIAN DIP (FOR FRUIT OR BEER BREAD)

Hawaiian Dip (For Fruit or Beer Bread) image

I LOVE this dip. It's so refreshing. Great with fruit or served with chunks of beer bread for dipping.

Provided by ForeverMama

Categories     Low Protein

Time 30m

Yield 10-12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

3/4 cup milk
1/2 cup sour cream
3 1/2 ounces instant vanilla pudding or 3 1/2 ounces pie filling
8 ounces crushed pineapple in juice, undrained
1/2 cup sweetened flaked coconut, toasted, divided
1 lime (zest and juice)

Steps:

  • Combine the milk, sour cream and pudding mix in a bowl; whisk until smooth. Stir in pineapple with juice and 1/3 cup coconut. Zest lime to measure 1 teaspoons zest. Juice lime to measure 1 teaspoons juice. Stir both zest and juice into dip. Cover and refrigerate at least 30 minutes before serving. Spoon dip into a pretty serving bowl. Sprinkle remaining coconut over the top. Serve with chunks of beer bread (which I normally do) or fruit as noted below.
  • NOTE: If serving with fruit, cut assorted fruits into 1" chunks, such as apples, bananas, pineapple. Canteloupe, honey dew melon balls and whole strawberries and/or grapes work well too. Alternately thread fruit onto 6" wooden skewers. Makes a pretty presentation.
