HAWAIIAN BANANA BREAD

Hawaiian Banana Bread image

From a cookbook entitled "Food Editors' Favorites: Treasured Recipes". The bananas should be almost over-ripe. Be absolutely certain to use cake flour and sift three times like the recipe calls for. Sounds odd, I know, but the bread really doesn't turn out the same without doing that. It's like magic! :) This freezes very well.

KING'S HAWAIIAN BREAD (COPYCAT)

King's Hawaiian Bread (Copycat) image

We absolutely love this bread. My sister won't buy anything but. It's kinda expensive so when I came across this, I had to add it here so we (Mom, Chris, and I) could always have it and everyone else could enjoy it too. The first time I ever had it, it was with the Spinach Veggie dip...OMGOSH it was DEEEVINE! So...next time you don't wanna spend the money, whip it up yourself! It does take a while...but so worth it!

Provided by Ree Drummond : Food Network

Categories     main-dish

Time 25m

Yield 4 burgers

Number Of Ingredients 14

1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons teriyaki sauce
1 tablespoon honey
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
8 canned pineapple rings
1 large red bell pepper, cut into rings
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
Teriyaki sauce, as needed
4 slices provolone cheese
2 tablespoons butter
4 onion rolls, halved
1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
Green lettuce leaves, for topping

Steps:

  • For the sauce: Stir together the mayo, teriyaki sauce, honey and cayenne in a small bowl. Set aside.
  • For the burgers: Set a grill pan over medium-high heat (you can also use a skillet).
  • Grill the pineapple and bell pepper rings until they have great grill marks on both sides (or brown them in the hot skillet), about 5 minutes.
  • Season the ground beef and form it into 4 equal-size patties. Cook them over medium heat on the grill for 4 to 5 minutes on the first side, then flip them over and add a splash of teriyaki sauce on top of each one. Place a slice of cheese on each patty and let it melt while the burger cooks through, about 4 minutes longer.
  • Butter a griddle or separate skillet set over medium heat. Place the rolls cut-side down and cook until brown, about a minute.
  • Spoon a little bit of the sauce on both sides of the rolls and allow it to soak into the bread. Place the patties on the bottom buns and top each with 2 pineapple slices and some red onion slices, bell pepper rings and lettuce. Top with the top buns and smush it all together. Serve with extra sauce for dipping.

HAWAIIAN BREAD DIP (ORIGINAL RECIPE)

Hawaiian Bread Dip (Original Recipe) image

I have used this recipe since 1992 and it's always been a huge hit, especially among the male population. There's never anything left but a few crumbs on the plate. When I take the bread and dip to a party I always take printed copies of the recipe. The saltiness of the beef, the sweet bread and the creamy dip is a great combination. I like to process the beef as it is easier to get on the bread. I usually make a full recipe plus a half recipe of the dip as the mixture goes fast.

Provided by Hugs-n-Quiches1

Categories     Meat

Time 15m

Yield 15-25 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 (2 ounce) packages sliced beef (Kroger's "Country Club" brand or Carl Buddig)
1 cup Hellmann's mayonnaise
1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon beau monde seasoning (Spice Islands brand, find at Kroger or Meijer)
1 teaspoon dried onion flakes
1 tablespoon dried parsley (heaping, crumbled)
1 loaf king's Hawaiian bread

Steps:

  • Dice or process the beef.
  • Add all ingredients together (except the bread).
  • Refrigerate overnight.
  • Before serving hollow out the bread, reserving the bread pieces.
  • Tear bread pieces into bite-sized chunks, placing around bread round.
  • Spoon the mixture into bread shell and serve.
  • Also, this is really good with celery sticks and other raw veggies.

HAWAIIAN TEA BREAD

Hawaiian Tea Bread image

I love this bread. It's so moist and versatile. I make it for breakfast, brunch, tea parties, and even desert. I like to use a mini loaf pan and give the loaves as gifts in a gift basket along with other "Hawaiian" treats. I also use valtrompia bread tubes in different shapes and then slice. The slices look so pretty on a plate. If you use the bread tubes, be sure to fold wax paper to fit over both ends of the tubes before fitting the lids on. I learned this recipe when I used to be a consultant for Pampered Chef.

HAWAIIAN SWEET BREAD

Hawaiian Sweet Bread image

The mother of a high school friend would make 13 loaves of this lightly sweet Hawaiian bread recipe at a time! I make this bread year-round, but my family insists it's a "must" for the holidays. -Ruthie Banks, Prescott, Arizona

Provided by Taste of Home

Time 1h

Yield 3 loaves (12 wedges each).

Number Of Ingredients 12

1/2 cup warm water (110° to 115°)
2 packages (1/4 ounce each) active dry yeast
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup pineapple juice
1 cup whole milk
7-1/2 to 8 cups all-purpose flour, divided
3/4 cup mashed potato flakes
2/3 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
3 large eggs, room temperature, lightly beaten
2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water; let stand until bubbles form on surface, 5 minutes. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, heat butter until melted. Add pineapple juice and whole milk and continue to heat gently until mixture reaches 110° to 115°. In a large bowl, combine 3 cups flour, potato flakes, sugar, salt and ginger. Add yeast and butter mixtures to dry ingredients; beat just until moistened. Add eggs; beat until smooth. Beat in vanilla. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough; dough will be sticky. , Turn dough onto a floured surface; with floured hands, knead until smooth and elastic, about 8-10 minutes, adding more flour to surface and hands as needed. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1-1/4 hours., Punch dough down. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; divide into thirds. Shape each into a ball. Place in 3 greased 9-in. round baking pans lined with parchment. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 45 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°. Bake until golden brown and internal temperature of loaves reaches 200°, 30-35 minutes, covering loosely with foil during the last 10 minutes of baking if needed to prevent tops from over-browning. HAWAIIAN SWEET BREAD HOLIDAY STUFFING

Hawaiian Sweet Bread Holiday Stuffing image

Provided by Food Network

Categories     side-dish

Time 48m

Yield 16 servings

Number Of Ingredients 14

2 loaves sweet Hawaiian bread or egg bread
1 cup pineapple chunks, fresh, canned or dried
1 cup cranberries, fresh, canned or dried
1 cup chestnuts, toasted, cleaned and chopped
1 tablespoon fresh sage, chopped
1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
1 pound link turkey, chicken or pork sausage
1 tablespoon canola oil
2 medium onions, diced
5 stalks celery, diced
5 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup whole milk
1 cup chicken or vegetable stock
2 pineapples, centers hollowed out

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Tear the bread by hand into large, bite size pieces and spread out in a single layer on a sheet pan. Place the bread in the oven until it is dry and toasted, about 15 minutes. Remove the bread and place into a large mixing bowl. Mix in the pineapple chunks, cranberries, chestnuts, sage and thyme. Set aside. Cut the sausage into 1/4 inch rounds. In a large sauté pan over medium high heat, add the oil and brown the sausage. Once the sausage is browned, drain any excess fat from the pan and add the onions and celery to the sausage, allowing them to sweat, about 10 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for another 3 minutes. Add the sausage mixture to the bread. Pour the milk and stock over the bread and sausage mixture, stirring to incorporate. Fill each half of a pineapple with the stuffing mixture and bake at 350 degrees F for 30 to 40 minutes or until the top of the stuffing has nicely browned. Serve immediately.

  • Combine the pineapple juice, milk, melted butter, eggs, sugar, salt, and yeast in the bowl of a stand mixer. Add 2 cups of the flour and stir with a wooden spoon until the dough forms a rough, shaggy mass. Attach the dough hook to the mixer and turn to medium-low speed. Gradually add the remaining flour JUST until the dough comes together. You may not need all the flour depending on your kitchen environment and brand of flour. Continue kneading on medium-high speed for 4 to 5 minutes, until a soft and smooth ball of dough forms.
  • Place the dough in a clean bowl. Cover with plastic wrap. Let rise until puffy and doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  • Spray a 13x9-inch baking pan with cooking spray. Gently deflate the dough. Use a bench scraper or knife to divide the dough into 15 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place in the prepared pan.

  • For the sponge: Weigh your flour; or measure it by gently spooning it into a cup, then sweeping off any excess. In the bowl of your stand mixer or the bucket of your bread machine, combine the sponge ingredients.
  • Add the pineapple juice, butter, brown sugar, eggs and yolk, and vanilla, mixing until well combined.
  • Mix and knead until the dough is cohesive and smooth; it'll be very sticky at first. If you're using a stand mixer, beat with the flat beater for about 3 minutes at medium-high speed; then scrape the dough into the center of the bowl, switch to the dough hook, and knead for about 5 minutes at medium speed.
  • Lightly grease the mixing bowl or a large (8-cup) measure; round the dough into a ball, and place it in the bowl or measure. Cover, and let rise until very puffy, about 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
  • Gently deflate the dough. Divide it into 16 equal pieces, by dividing in half, then in halves again, etc. Round each piece into a smooth ball. Space the buns in the pan.
  • Tent the dough gently with lightly greased plastic wrap. Let the dough rise in the pan for 1 hour, until it's nicely puffy. Toward the end of the rising time, preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Mix the reserved egg white with 1 tablespoon cold water, and brush some onto the surface of the rolls; this will give them a satiny crust.
  • Bake the rolls for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the internal temperature reads 190°F on a digital thermometer.

TRADITIONAL HAWAIIAN FOOD: EAT THESE 7 MASSIVELY TASTY …

From migrationology.com
  • Poi. The staple and traditional filler starch dish in Hawaiian cuisine is something known as poi. Poi is a thick paste made from taro root (similar to a yam or potato but with a starchy-er flavor) that is either steamed or baked and pounded.
  • Laulau. Traditional Hawaiian food would not be complete without a dish known as laulau — it’s one of my personal favorite dishes on this Hawaiian food list.
  • Kalua pig. Another giant of Hawaiian cuisine is the famous pork dish known as Kalua Pig. Cooked in an underground oven (known as an imu), the pork slow roasts so it becomes extremely tender and retains a remarkable smoky flavor.
  • Poke. Poke is the Hawaiian version of Japanese sashimi (raw fish) — and for myself, it doesn’t get much better than poke — I’m in love and addicted. Every time I come back to Hawaii to visit family, poke is just about the first food I want to eat.
  • Lomi Salmon (lomi-lomi salmon) Lomi salmon is not originally native to Hawaii but was brought over from other Pacific islands. The dish is now part of most traditional Hawaiian meals and makes a great addition to poi.
  • Chicken long rice. Chicken long rice is not a traditional Hawaiian food recipe, but it has weaved its way into becoming a norm at many Hawaiian luaus and meals.
  • Fruit (like pineapple and lilikoi) Topping off a great Hawaiian meal, it’s a very pleasant necessity to enjoy some freshly grown Hawaiian fruit. The islands of Hawaii were formerly famous for their fruit, but as land and labor became too expensive, the fruit industry in Hawaii started to decline.
