A pizza in half, much better than calzones. Had them all over in the Italian areas in Philadelphia growing up. Serve with spaghetti sauce or Ranch dressing.

2 (16 ounce) packages refrigerated pizza crust dough
1 (28 ounce) jar spaghetti sauce
¼ pound cooked ham, sliced
¼ pound Capacola sausage, sliced
¼ pound salami, sliced
¼ pound pepperoni sausage, sliced
garlic powder to taste
¼ pound mozzarella cheese, shredded
1 onion, sliced
6 mushrooms, sliced
1 green bell pepper, sliced

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C). Let dough rise according to package instructions, then punch down, and divide into 4 pieces.
  • On a floured surface, roll each piece of dough into a long oval shape. Spread each with sauce, then layer with ham, capacola, salami, and pepperoni. Sprinkle with garlic powder, then top with mozzarella, onion, mushrooms and bell pepper. Bring the long sides together over the center, and pinch together to seal. Turn over, so that the seam is on the bottom, and place on an ungreased baking sheet. With a sharp knife, cut 3 diagonal slices to allow the steam to escape.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 20 to 30 minutes, or until golden brown.

1/2 pound sliced Swiss cheese
1/2 pound thinly sliced deli ham
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1 package (16 ounces) frozen chopped broccoli, thawed and drained
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

Steps:

  • On a floured surface, roll dough into an 18x12-in. rectangle. Layer with Swiss cheese, ham, cheddar cheese, Colby cheese and broccoli to within 1 in. of edges; sprinkle with garlic powder. Roll up jelly-roll style, starting with a long side; seal seams and ends., Place seam side down on a greased 15x10x1-in. baking pan. Bake, uncovered, at 400° for 20 minutes. I had a lot of leftover deli ham after making Monte Cristo sandwiches and wanted to whip up something quick and easy. This was the result. Good thing my husband wasn't home as my 16 year old son and his girlfriend devoured the whole thing! My son also came up with varieties that he will try. He thinks turkey with pesto would be good. I think you can sub most any cheese, meat and vegetable. I might do thinly sliced flank steak and blue cheese next time.

1 -2 tablespoon honey mustard
1/2 lb deli ham
1 cup swiss cheese, grated
1 cup broccoli, steamed and chopped (fresh or frozen)

Steps:

  • Spray oil on a cookie sheet and roll out the pie crust on it. Roll and stretch the pizza crust to approximately 16" x 12".
  • Spread mustard over all of the pizza crust.
  • Layer ham, cheese and broccoli all along one long edge of the crust. Starting with the ham edge, roll tightly. Finish with seam side down. Make small slits diagonally across the top of crust every 2-3".

1 pound prepared pizza dough
2 egg whites, whipped
1 1/2 cups mozzarella
1 pound tavern ham, sliced thin
8 ounces capicola ham, sliced thin
8 ounces pepperoni, sliced thin
1 cup marinara or tomato sauce
1 tablespoon minced fresh parsley
10 to 12 fresh basil leaves

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Sprinkle a clean dry work surface with flour. Roll the dough into a 10- by 14-inch rectangle, making sure not to flip the dough over, rotating by 90 degrees as needed. After rolling the dough, apply the egg whites to cover inner section (10- by 3-inch). Then add 1/4 cup mozzarella followed by both hams, another 1/4 cup cheese and then finish with the pepperoni. To finish stuffing, add the remaining cheese and drizzle with the sauce and herbs.
  • Next, brush the edges with some of the egg whites. Fold the bottom and top edges over the filling, and then fold the sides over twice, 1 inch at a time, resulting in a 6- by 14-inch tube. Brush the outside of the stromboli with the remaining egg whites, place on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper and bake until firm and golden brown, 15 to 18 minutes. Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes. Cut into 5 to 6 portions and serve.

3 wafer-thin ham slices, torn
100g ball mozzarella , grated
handful basil leaf

  • Make the dough, leave to rise and knock back as stated. Heat oven to 200C/fan 180C/gas 6.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to a rough rectangle about 40 x 25cm. Spread the sauce over the dough, leaving a small border, and scatter over the ham, mozzarella and basil. Tuck the short sides in and roll up the long side like a Swiss roll. Lift onto a tray, seal-side down, and brush with the egg.
