AUTOGYRO ELA JUMP TAKEOFF - ROTARY WING FORUM
Apr 18, 2024 Great! This should give that gryo access to many places denied to those aircraft needing a ground run for takeoff and thus considerably increase the number and places of possible gyro usage. I had always wondered why nobody offers a gyro with that very desirable capability, as jump takeoff was demonstrated almost 100 years ago.

WHICH IS SAFER, TRIKE VS. GYRO - ROTARY WING FORUM
May 19, 2009 The only major downside I see to a gyro is that in the event of a good roll over the gyro will sustain major damage. Then again if you flip a fixed wing on its back or a trike I suppose it will cost about the same to repair any of them. Trikes are more efficient and I believe the smaller wings have decent cruise speeds in the 70 to 90mph range.

ANY CAVALON OWNERS WILLING TO SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCES?
Apr 1, 2020 Paul, thanks for writing. I was a fixed wing pilot with an instrument rating and about 800 hours when I ordered my gyro. I researched carefully, flew every model that I could and put heavy emphasis on build quality. I chose the Auto-Gyro "Cavalon" because of the experienced builder and quality of workmanship.

HOW MANY MILES PER GALLON DO YOU GET OUT OF YOUR GYRO?
Nov 7, 2006 The past couple of days I investigated the optimal power settings for various cruise conditions on my ArrowCopter. It is powered by a Rotax 914 which drives a constant speed prop. So I have two degrees of freedom: throttle (controlling manifold pressure) and prop pitch (controlling prop rpm)...

THE RISKS OF FLYING GYROPLANES - ROTARY WING FORUM
May 27, 2006 Also it concerns me that so many gyro pilots seem to accept smashing up their gyros as part of the accepted risks that flying a gyro entails. Strange that those of us who fly aircraft and helicopters will go our whole life time flying tens of thousands of hours with zero accidents or damage to aircraft.

GYRO DESIGN MINDED | ROTARY WING FORUM
Dec 17, 2024 The CLT v HTL discussion is separate from the issue of PIO (pilot-induced oscillation, or "porpoising"). PIO was much more likely in the original Bensen gyro than in more recent designs. There are several reasons for this, including today's heavier, lower-RPM rotors and the use of horizontal stabilizers.
