There is a furniture store about an hour or so from us that takes up a whole city block. They even have a bed and breakfast and a little restaurant in the store. This salad is one they are famous for. Hope you like it as much as we do!

Number Of Ingredients 4

Ingredients

2 c corn oil {or canola}
3/4 c apple cider vinegar
1-1/2 c white sugar
1/3 c plus 1 tbsp. soy sauce

Steps:

1. Mix and boil one minute; and let cool in refrigerator before putting on cabbage. HINT: I usually don't use this much dressing, in fact you only need maybe 1/3 to 1/2 the recipe, but I wanted to put the correct recipe in case you were making it for a large crowd.
2. TOPPING: Preheat oven to 350 degrees: 1 package ramen noodles {MINUS the seasoning packet} 2 tablespoons almond slices 2 tablespoons sesame seeds 2 tablespoons margarine
3. Melt the margarine and add the sesame seeds, almonds, and noodles. Brown in the oven at 350 degrees stirring every 10 minutes for thirty minutes.
4. Salad: one head of napa cabbage, chopped two green onions, chopped just before serving, combine salad with 1/3 cup of dressing, and top with topping. Delicious! Enjoy!

Ingredients

1 head lettuce (I used butter lettuce mixed with red loose leaf lettuce however any heirloom lettuce would be ideal)
1 cup watercress (rocket) or 1 cup arugula (rocket)
1 small red onion, diced
8 -10 small red radishes
3 tablespoons fresh borage leaves, chopped (and a few borage flowers if available)
freshly grated black pepper
2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
1 pinch salt
2 tablespoons oil (I used walnut)

Steps:

Wash the lettuce and watercress well and spin dry.
Prepare the dressing in a non-reactive container and set aside. Best prepared at least 1 hour in advance.
Combine the salad ingredients together in a large salad bowl with the dressing. Toss to coat.
Garnish with additional borage leaves and flowers.
fyi: A sprinkle of freshly grated black pepper tasted really good on the salad.

Ingredients

6 tablespoons olive oil
1 1/2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoon dried oregano (Mediterranean is best)
1 head lettuce, torn into bite-size pieces ((I use Romaine)
3 large plum tomatoes, seeded and coarsely chopped
1 English cucumber, peeled and coarsely chopped (the long, thin, almost seedless ones)
1 medium red onion, cut into thin rings and soaked for 10 minutes in a small bowl of ice water to make it less sharp
1 small green pepper, cut into thin rings
3/4 cup kalamata olive
3/4 cup crumbled feta cheese

Steps:

Whisk dressing ingredients together until blended.
Season to taste.
Drain onion from ice water and pat dry with paper towels.
Combine all salad ingredients, except cheese, in large bowl.
Toss with dressing.
Sprinkle cheese over and serve.
