GRANDMA'S CHOCOLATE PIE

Grandma's Chocolate Pie image

It's just NOT the holidays without Grandma Klepper's Chocolate Pie. This has been at the dinner table for more years than I could count. Now it's at my table every Thanksgiving :) Enjoy!

Categories     Pies

Number Of Ingredients 13

PIE FILLING
2 box(es) cook and serve chocolate fudge pudding (jello brand)
10 large marshmallows
1 teaspoon(s) vanilla extract
2 3/4 cup(s) milk (of your choice)
PIE TOPPING'S
1 package(s) whipped topping, thawed
1/2 - hershey's candy bar (shaved)
PIE CRUST
1 3/4 cup(s) flour
1 teaspoon(s) sugar
1 1/2 stick(s) cold butter (cut into tabs)
1/4 cup(s) cold water

Steps:

  • Make Pie crust first. Place flour and sugar in a food processor. Pulse. Add about half of the butter. Pulse. Add the rest of the butter. Pulse until the mixture turns into coarse crumbs. Through the feed tube, slowly add the ice water and pulse until the dough gathers up into a ball. If it doesn't after a few seconds, add a few more drops of ice water until it does. Take the dough and flatten it into a disc and place it on a sheet of floured plastic wrap. Refrigerate for about 30 minutes.
  • while waiting on the crust to chill.. bring all your ingredients on a stove top to a easy boil (leaving out marshmellows) Stirring always (careful not to burn your pudding)slowly add marshmallows once pudding mix is well combined, whisk til completely melted.
  • Remove crust from fridge,You will need a 9-inch deep dish pie plate, sprayed with a little Pam and some pie weights or dried beans. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Roll out the pie dough between two sheets of plastic wrap until it's a little larger than your pie dish. Transfer to the pie dish (the easiest way to do this is to roll up the sheet of dough around the rolling pin, transfer the rolling pan to the pie plate and unroll). Gentle press the dough down into the pie plate. Crimp the edges decoratively and dock the bottom of the dough with a fork or your fingers. Line the pie with a sheet of tin foil. Place either pie weights or dried beans in the pie plate. Gentle press down the pie weights so they fill in the bottom of the plate. Bake for 15 minutes. Take pie out of oven and gently remove the sheet of tin foil with the pie weights. Place pie back in oven and back for another 15 minutes. Check the pie dough and, if you see any large bubble forming, spear it with a knife tip.
  • Once crust is completely cooked and cooled, place pudding mixture into pie pan. Set in fridge until ready to serve, right before serving, spread whipped topping onto the top of your pie, and shave Hershey's candy bar, onto the top of the pie, slice and serve!!!!! I hope you enjoy my family's tradition with your family and friends!!!!!

GRANDMA EMMA'S FUDGY CHOCOLATE PIE

Grandma Emma's Fudgy Chocolate Pie image

My grandmother's chocolate cream pie was a staple of my childhood. Homemade custard filling with a dense texture. Very rich, not too sweet, and oh-so-satisfying. For convenience, I make this with a store-bought graham cracker crust and top with whipped cream, but she used to make hers with a prebaked pastry crust topped with meringue. Either way, it's delicious. Hope you enjoy!

GRANDMA'S NO-ROLL-CRUST CHOCOLATE PIE

Grandma's No-Roll-Crust Chocolate Pie image

I like this because I'm not very good with rolling out pie crusts and the prep time and cook time are fast when you need something on the run. I also wanted to share the recipe because it's very old. My grandma said this has been passed on for a very long time. I have added the chocolate pudding and Cool Whip to make it an even faster recipe.

GRANDMA'S CLASSIC NO-BAKE COOKIES

Grandma's Classic No-Bake Cookies image

This is the first cookie I ever learned to make as a child. They're very delicious with the peanut butter and oatmeal. You can eat them fresh out of the pan in a bowl with a spoon, which is delicious with a glass of milk besides. This no-bake cookie recipe was my grandmother's, and my mother taught it to her children, and I will to mine. I hope you have as much fun making this either by yourself or with your children, as I did with my mom. Separate cookies with waxed paper if putting in a tin or baggie to prevent sticking.

MY GRANDMA'S CHOCOLATE PIES

My Grandma's Chocolate Pies image

My grandma didn't measure anything so this is as close as I could get. I never said it was a healthy recipe. It can be made without the evaporated milk and using low fat or skim milk and using margarine instead of butter but please use real vanilla and a good quality cocoa. You might have to adjust the cornstarch or cocoa depending on how thick or chocolaty you like your pies. I make 2 of these pies for every church covered dish meal and never get to bring a slice home. Oh yes...you can cook the filling in a large double boiler to avoid scorching it, it just takes longer.

Categories     Pie

Time 55m

Yield 2 pies

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 (9 inch) deep dish pie shells, baked (bought or homemade)
2 cups sugar
6 tablespoons cornstarch
6 tablespoons good quality cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 eggs, separated
1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring (NOT ARTIFICIAL)
1 (15 ounce) can evaporated milk
4 cups whole milk
1/4 cup butter
6 teaspoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar

Steps:

  • Stir together sugar, cornstarch, salt and cocoa in a heavy 3 quart boiler.
  • Beat egg yolks with milk and stir into dry ingredients.
  • Add butter that has been cut into small cubes and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture thickens and just begins to "bubble".
  • You must stir constantly or this filling will scorch.
  • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and pour into baked pie shells and let cool some.
  • Make a meringue from the 6 egg whites, cream of tarter and sugar.
  • Spread on top of pies and brown in the oven at 325°F.
  • Remove pies from oven when meringue is nicely brown.
  • Let cool at least 30 minutes before you attempt to cut these pies.
  • Let the kids or dear hubby have the pot and stirring spoon to lick clean.

GRANDMA'S CHOCOLATE CUSTARD PIE

Grandma's Chocolate Custard Pie image

Straight from grandma's kitchen, a delicious Southern holiday tradition. A smooth and rich chocolate dessert that will have you asking for thirds.

Provided by TRISTESS00

Categories     Desserts     Pies     Custard and Cream Pie Recipes

Time 2h20m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 9

¾ cup white sugar
2 tablespoons self-rising flour
1 tablespoon cocoa powder, or more to taste
2 cups whole milk
2 eggs, separated
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 pre-baked pie shell
1 pinch white sugar, or to taste
1 dash vanilla extract, or to taste

Steps:

  • Mix sugar, flour, and cocoa powder together in a bowl until well combined.
  • Mix milk, egg yolks, and vanilla extract together in a separate large bowl. Add flour mixture and blend custard until smooth.
  • Pour custard into a cast iron skillet over medium heat. Cook, stirring continually, until slightly boiling but not popping, about 5 minutes. Cook just until reasonably thickened, 3 to 5 minutes more, and remove from heat immediately. Stir hot custard to smooth out any lumps and pour into the pre-baked pie shell.
  • Set an oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source and preheat the oven's broiler.
  • Beat egg whites, sugar, and vanilla extract together in a small bowl until peaks start to form. Spread the thick meringue mixture on top of the custard.
  • Cook under the preheated broiler just until the peaks start to turn light brown, 1 to 2 minutes, being very careful not to let the meringue burn.
  • Place the custard pie in the fridge or on Grandma's porch on a cool night until the custard congeals, about 2 hours.
