GRANDMA'S HOMEMADE GRANOLA

Grandma's Homemade Granola image

My grandmother and I created this homemade granola recipe one day, and it is currently loved and requested by the rest of my family, including my other grandma who used to be anti-granola! My favorite ways to serve it are in coconut Greek yogurt or just in a bowl with milk. Simple and awesome.

HOMEMADE GRANOLA

Homemade Granola image

My husband found this recipe in a mountain bike magazine that we changed just a bit. This granola is really easy to make and very good. You can use oats, but I like to use multi-grain hot cereal that includes oats, barley, rye, and wheat. Enjoy!

Provided by Lisa Clarice

Categories     Breakfast

Time 40m

Yield 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 13

5 tablespoons apple juice
5 tablespoons honey (add more for a sweeter taste)
2 tablespoons maple syrup (add more for a sweeter taste)
3 tablespoons olive oil
2 tablespoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
3 cups multi-grain hot cereal (or oats)
1/4 cup sliced almonds
1/3 cup pumpkin seeds
1/3 cup sunflower seeds
3 tablespoons sesame seeds
1 cup dried berries (optional)

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 360 degrees.
  • Toast nuts in pan over stove until lightly brown.
  • Mix the fruit juice, honey, maple syrup, oil, vanilla, and spices in a large bowl. It's okay to add more honey, maple syrup, cinnamon, or spices - just depends how you like your granola to taste.
  • Add oats and nuts into honey mixture and combine together.
  • Spread mixture on a baking sheet and bake 30 minutes until golden. Stir occasionally. Use your best judgement when baking. I like mine a little crunchy, so sometimes I bake it 40 minutes.
  • Leave on pan to cool.
  • If you are using dried fruit stir in once completely cooled.
  • Store granola in container with lid (not in refrigerator). It will last about a week or a little longer. Add granola to vanilla yogurt, or with milk, or eat plain.

GRANDMA'S GRANOLA

Grandma's Granola image

This recipe was adapted from The Amish Community Cookbook - Simply Delicious Recipes from Amish and Mennonite Homes. Some ingredients have obviously been "modernized" but still go along with traditional cuisine! To lower calories, I skip the honey and it's plenty sweet enough for me when I use the optional raisinsl

Provided by Carolyn Haas

Categories     Other Breakfast

Time 30m

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 c oatmeal (old fashioned or quick)
1 1/2 c rice krispies® cereal
1/3 c sliced almonds
1/2 c flaked coconut ( i like unsweetened)
2 Tbsp flax meal or wheat germ (optional)
1/4 c honey (optional)
2 1/2 Tbsp oil (i use coconut oil)
1 Tbsp brown sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 c golden or dark raisins (optional)

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 325ºF. In a large bowl, mix together dry ingredients (not raisins)
  • 2. In a small saucepan, heat honey, oil and brown sugar - not quite to boiling. Remove from heat and stir in cinnamon and vanilla.
  • 3. Pour liquid mixture over cereal and stir til well mixed. Place in baking pan lined with parchment paper. Bake for about 21 minutes stirring every 7 minutes or so until golden. Add raisins, if using, the last time you stir the mixture.
  • 4. Remove from oven when golden, and cool. When completely cool, store in airtight container.

MOM'S HOMEMADE GRANOLA

Mom's Homemade Granola image

After finding out she was diabetic, my mom couldn't eat her favorite granola because it made her blood sugar spike. So, she came up with this recipe, and it's so much better than the store-bought because it's healthier and you can make it just how you want to. It makes a lot, and it keeps well in airtight containers. Now I like this recipe with no sugar and lots of raisins.

Provided by HobbysGirl

Categories     Breakfast

Time 3h20m

Yield 2 gallons, 64 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 14

42 ounces quick oatmeal
1 (16 ounce) bag shredded coconut
1 (10 ounce) bag sliced almonds
2 cups oat bran
1 tablespoon sea salt
2 cups Splenda granular, sugar substitute (optional) or 2 cups sugar (optional)
3 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon clove
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 1/2 cups canola oil
2 cups hot water
2 cups honey
3 tablespoons vanilla
1 (24 ounce) box raisins or 1 (24 ounce) box other dried fruit

Steps:

  • In a (large) dish pan mix dry ingredients (oatmeal through nutmeg) until evenly dispersed.
  • In a microwaveable bowl, mix wet ingredients (oil through vanilla).
  • Microwave on high for one minute to combine if needed.
  • Pour liquid over cereal mix.
  • Stir with spoon to moisten everything. Add a little water if necessary.
  • Spread into four large greased roasting or baking pans, about 1 to 1 1/2 inch deep works best.
  • Bake at 250 degrees for 120 minutes, stirring after 40 minutes, breaking up large clumps.
  • After cooking, let cool on stove. Granola will dry out a little more in this stage, so don't overcook it while baking.
  • Spread raisins over top of dry granola.
  • Scoop into airtight containers. Raisins will mix evenly into granola in this stage.
