This easy coal candy is a fun treat for the holidays.

1 15.25 oz chocolate sandwich cookies ((such as Oreos))
5 cups mini marshmallows
4 tablespoons butter

Steps:

  • Place cookies in food processor and pulse until they resemble fine crumbs.
  • Place marshmallows and butter in a large, microwave safe bowl; microwave for 1-2 minutes or until marshmallows are puffed.
  • Remove marshmallows from microwave and stir in cookie crumbs.
  • Break off pieces of the mixture and form into lumps that resemble coal.
  • Place on a baking sheet lined with wax paper. Allow to set until firm.

  • A stocking full of coal might not be such a bad gift after all: These lumps are Rice Krispies Treats! To make some, prepare a half batch of the treats as the box directs, then shape into small irregular lumps while still warm. Microwave 16 ounces chopped dark chocolate in 30-second intervals until melted. Dip the treats in the melted chocolate and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Let set slightly, then roll in black cocoa powder or finely ground chocolate wafer cookies.

1/4 cup butter
1 bag (10 oz) large marshmallows (5 cups)
8 cups Cocoa Puffs™ cereal (from 11.8-oz box)
3 bags (12 oz each) semisweet chocolate chips or 36 oz (from two 24-oz packages) chocolate-flavored candy coating
3 tablespoons shortening
Black sugar and/or black candy sprinkles

Steps:

  • Line 13x9-inch pan with foil. Spray with cooking spray.
  • In 4-quart microwavable bowl, microwave butter uncovered on High about 1 minute or until melted. Add marshmallows; toss to coat. Microwave about 2 minutes, stirring after each minute, until marshmallows are completely melted and mixture is well blended. Add cereal; mix well.
  • Spoon cereal mixture into pan. Spray hands with cooking spray, and press mixture firmly in pan. Cover with waxed paper; press second 13x9-inch pan on top to compress bars. Remove pan and paper. Cool completely, about 1 hour. Remove bars from pan; peel off foil. Using sharp knife, cut bars into 8 rows by 6 rows to make 48 squares. Line cookie sheet with waxed paper.
  • In 1-quart microwavable bowl, microwave 12 oz of the chocolate and 1 tablespoon of the shortening uncovered on High 1 minute 30 seconds; stir. Continue microwaving and stirring in 15-second intervals until melted and smooth. Using 2 forks, dip and roll each cereal square in coating. Place on cookie sheet. Repeat twice to use up chocolate, shortening and squares.
  • Sprinkle coated squares with black sugar and/or sprinkles. Place in freezer 15 minutes or refrigerator 30 minutes until chocolate is set. Store in airtight container or sealed storage bag.

4 cups miniature marshmallows
1 (20 ounce) package chocolate sandwich cookies (such as Oreo®), crushed

Steps:

  • Butter a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat; add marshmallows and stir until melted. Cook and stir mixture for 2 minutes more. Remove saucepan from heat. Stir crushed cookies into marshmallow mixture until well coated.
  • Press cookie mixture firmly into the prepared baking dish using a buttered spatula or waxed paper; cool. Cut into 2-inch squares.

This is one of my new cookie/brownie recipes I found a few years ago. It isso easy to make once you get the hang of it. It is a great dessert to make with the kids. Get their fingers sticky & yummy. Best part is the left over chocolate on your fingers....

1/4 cup(s) butter, softened
1 ounce(s) marshmallows, large
8 cup(s) cocoa puff cereal
3 package(s) semi-sweet chocolate chips
3 tablespoon(s) shortening
1 jar(s) black sprinkles

Steps:

  • First line a 13x9 inch pan with foil. Then spray with cooking spray. In a 4 quart microwaveable bowl. Microwave the butter uncovered on high for about 1 min or until fully melted. Then add in the marshmallows & toss to coat. Return to the microwave for about 2 more mins. Stirring after each minute until marshmallows are melted. & mixer is well blended. The add in the cereal & mix well.
  • Next spoon the cereal mixture into the pan. Spray your hands with cooking spray & press the mixture firmly in the pan. Then cover with waxed paper & press a second 13x9 inch pan on top to compress it down. Remove the second pan& paper. Let cool completely for about 1 hour. Then remove from the pan, peel off the foil. Using a sharp knife, cut into 8 rows by 6 rows of bars to make 48 sqaures. Then line cookie sheet with waxed paper.
  • Then in a 1 quart microwave bowl melt the chocolate & 1 Tbsp. of the shortening uncovered in high for about 1 min & 30 seconds. Make sure to stir. The contiune microwaving & stirring in 15 second intervals until melted & smooth. Then using 2 forks dip & roll each cereal square bar into coat. Place on the cookie sheet. And repeat with the remaining bars.
  • Then sprinkle the coated bars with the black sprinkles. Then place in the freezer for 15 mins or the refrigerstor for 30 mins or until the chocolate has fully set. Then store in an airtight container or sealed plactic bag.
