- Cook ham steak in a large skillet over medium heat until browned, 3 to 4 minutes per side. Drain and remove ham.
- Heat butter in the same skillet until melted; stir in brown sugar. Return ham to skillet and cook over medium-low heat until heated through and brown sugar is dissolved, turning steak often, about 10 minutes.

- Drain pineapple, reserving 1 tablespoon juice; set pineapple aside (discard remaining juice or save for another use). Cut each ham steak in half; place in an ungreased baking pan. , Combine brown sugar, mustard and reserved juice; spread over ham. Top with pineapple and cherries. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 20-25 minutes or until heated through.

GLAZED SKILLET HAM STEAKS
This glaze made the Test Kitchen smell so darn good! Turns out it tastes as good as it smells... wonderful on the ham AND in tea or on ice cream!!

- 1. Brown the ham slices in your skillet (electric or stove top)
- 2. Mix the juice from the peaches with the mint syrup and pour over meat
- 3. If you don't have time to make the mint syrup, or have not found any at the store -- you can also just had 1/4 to 1/2 tsp of mint flavoring to the peach syrup from the can. Stir together, taste to make sure you have enough mint, then pour over meat.
- 4. Top with the peaches and cherries, sprinkle with cinnamon
- 5. Cover and simmer on low heat till fruit is done
- 6. TO MAKE MINT SYRUP: In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, bring water to a boil and add the sugar. Add fresh mint leaves (or mint flavoring -- your choice). Simmer until thickened. (About 10 minutes.)
- 7. Strain out the leaves if desired. Transfer syrup to a small metal bowl and let sit for 10 minutes. Can be used warm in this dish, but any extra can be cooled and stored in a covered container for up to one month.
- 8. This mint flavored simple syrup can be used to sweeten tea, flavor milk, lemonade, or seltzer, and is an especially delightful treat over vanilla ice cream. I like to add a little green food coloring if I'm using it for ice cream.
- 9. You can also use this simple syrup recipe to make ginger, basil, cinnamon, vanilla or any flavored syrup.
RUTH'S SIMPLE GLAZED HAM STEAKS
This was the way my Grandma Ruth would make ham steaks for a nice lunch. They go well with potato salad and corn on the cob (I think they go well with any sides!).

Steps:
- Trim the fat around the edges of the ham steaks.
- Melt the apple jelly in a large skillet over medium heat for about 1-2 minutes.
- Add mustard and pepper; mix in well.
- Place ham steaks into skillet and spoon sauce over them to cover.
- Cook, uncovered, about 5 minutes per side, basting often.
- Turn out ham to a serving platter.
- Cut into serving size pieces as desired.

I found this glaze somewhere on the internet and decided to put it on a ham steak. Delicious! I serve this with my favorite Macaroni & Cheese recipe (#4842).

- Mix together maple syrup, vinegar and mustard in small bowl.
- Brush one side of ham steak with mixture and place glazed side down in skillet over medium heat.
- Brush top of ham steak.
- Cook over medium heat, turning frequently, until cooked through and glaze has thickened.
