Tie-Dye Lemon Drop Jello Shots image

Layering lemonade and pink lemonade in your Jello shots leads to both an exciting flavor profile and a cool visual presentation.

Provided by Food.com

Categories     Jellies

Time 14m

Yield 15 shots

Number Of Ingredients 14

1 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups cold water
3 gelatin, packets
1 cup lemon juice
1/3 cup vodka
2 drops yellow food coloring
2 cups pink lemonade
1/2 cup cold water
3 gelatin, packets
1/3 cup vodka
2 drops pink food coloring
1/4 cup sugar
1 drop yellow food coloring
1 lemon, cut into small 1 1/2-inch wedges

Steps:

  • For the Lemonade Drop:.
  • Combine 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water in a small saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium high heat and cook until sugar is dissolved and liquid is clear, about 3-5 minutes. Keep hot.
  • Place 1/2 cup cold water in a medium bowl and sprinkle over the gelatin powder. Let sit for about 5 minutes, then whisk in the hot sugar and water mixture until smooth. Stir in the lemon juice, vodka and yellow food coloring. Transfer to a measuring cup or vessel with a spout.
  • For the Pink Lemonade Drop:.
  • Place pink lemonade in a medium saucepan and bring to a simmer. Place 1/2 cup cold water in a medium bowl and sprinkle over the gelatin powder. Let sit about 5 minutes, then whisk in the hot pink lemonade until smooth. Stir in the vodka and pink food coloring. Transfer to a measuring cup or vessel with a spout.
  • Place 20-24 2-ounce clear shot cups on a tray and fill each half way with the Lemonade Drop. Place in the refrigerator until mostly set, about 1 1/2 hours. Do not refrigerate the pink lemonade drop mixture.
  • When the lemonade drop is set, fill the glasses almost to the rim with the pink lemonade drop. Use a thick wooden skewer or small spoon to cut through the set lemon jello, mixing to make a tie dye pattern. Return to the refrigerator until set, about 3-4 hours.
  • Place 1/2 cup sugar in a strainer set over a bowl. Add the yellow food coloring and use a spoon or rubber spatula to mix into the sugar as it falls through the strainer. Mix the sugar in the bowl until it turns yellow.
  • Dip the rind of the lemons in the sugar and place the lemon wedges on the edge of the cups to serve.

BASE JELLO SHOTS RECIPE WITH FRUIT FLOATERS

Base Jello Shots Recipe With Fruit Floaters image

This is a base recipe so you can work with what jello and/or liquor you already have in your bar. Usually it's best to model the shot after an already existing drink, or to use plain vodka or light rum with a fruit flavor and using the same type of fruit as a floater. Cooking time is chill time.

Provided by Demandy

Categories     Gelatin

Time 5h15m

Yield 32 shots, 10 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 (6 ounce) box fruit flavored Jello gelatin (large box) or 1 (5/8 ounce) box fruit flavored sugar-free jello (large box)
2 cups boiling water
1 1/4-1 1/2 cups cold water or 1 1/4-1 1/2 cups ice water
1/2 cup vodka (or any liquor) or 1/2 cup light rum (or any liquor)
36 small paper cups
1/4 cup fruit juice (optional)
6 ounces berries (optional) or 6 ounces fruit slices, for floaters (optional)

Steps:

  • To make this easier, you may want to have a two quart pitcher with a handle and a pour spout to mix it with and then to pour it into the shot cups.
  • First boil the water and then put it in the pitcher. Then add the package of gelatin. Stir, or shake, if your container has a tight fitting lid, to dissolve.
  • Add cold water or equivalent amount of ice, fruit juice, and then liquor. Definitely use ice instead of the cold water if you are having the party in less than 4 hours because it will solidify faster. Taste to ensure there is enough liquor and consider adding more. If you use a citrus juice then you can add more liquor. Do NOT use pineapple juice, it will interfere with the gelatin setting.
  • Pour the mixture into 3 oz Dixie cups, filling 2/3 full (after all, you want enough of these to go around). I normally lay down a sheet of wax paper, and then pour the cups and place them on a cookie sheet. If you do two batches you can place the cookie sheets on top of each other in the fridge.
  • Drop small fruit slices or an individual berry into each shot cup for a classy touch. Then chill for at least 3 hours.
  • To bring them to your friend's party, find a cardboard box. Fill the bottom layer with shots. Lay another piece of cardboard on top of that layer and fill that layer with shots, and so on. They should make the journey with no problems.
