This is a delicious salad made of 7 different layers of ingredients. It's wonderful with a meal or as a meal by itself. My kids say YUM-YUM when they see it on the table.

1 head lettuce
¼ cup shredded red cabbage
3 carrots, grated
1 tomato, diced
1 avocado - peeled, pitted and diced
1 bunch green onions, chopped
1 cup pinto beans, rinsed and drained
1 (12 ounce) package tortilla chips, crushed
2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
1 (16 ounce) bottle Ranch-style salad dressing

Steps:

  • Chop lettuce and toss in a large bowl with grated cabbage and carrots. Spread mixture into the bottom of a 9x13 inch pan.
  • Evenly cover the lettuce with a layer of tomato, followed by a layer of avocado, a layer of green onion, a layer of beans and a layer of chips. Pour the dressing over all and sprinkle with the cheese. Cover and refrigerate for 30 to 45 minutes before serving.

This recipe was made every holiday by my late aunt. I'm not a great cook, but this is so easy and so delicious that it's my "assigned" dish at every family get-together!

Number Of Ingredients 9

fresh spinach
lettuce
1 purple onion, sliced into rings
4 -5 eggs, hard boiled
1 can small English pea, drained
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
4 ounces mayonnaise
4 ounces sour cream
6 -8 slices bacon

Steps:

  • Fry 6-8 pieces of bacon, drain on paper towels, and crumble. Set aside for garnish.
  • Hard boil the eggs.
  • In a large clear glass trifle bowl, layer the spinach, lettuce, sliced onions, sliced eggs, peas and cheese.
  • Mix mayonnaise and sour cream and spread on top.
  • Sprinkle with crumbled bacon.

This 7 layer salad recipe sounds like a bunch of vegetables thrown together, but every occasion people ask me if I will make this, it is really gooooooood. Overnight chilling not included in preparation time.

1 head lettuce, chopped
1 green pepper, chopped
1 cup celery (I leave this out)
1 small onion, chopped
1 cup frozen peas, uncooked
2 cups Miracle Whip (I use the Lite)
2 teaspoons sugar (You can use Equal or Sweet and Low)
1 (4 ounce) jar Bacos bacon bits (you can also use crumbled leftover bacon)
2 cups cheese, shredded

Steps:

  • Layer all of the above vegetables in order, evenly.
  • Cover with plastic wrap securely and refrigerate overnight.

This is a beautiful, elegant, tasty salad. Choose a bowl worthy of the ingredients, and get ready for the compliments.

1 head iceberg lettuce
1 (12 ounce) bag spinach
4 eggs, hardboiled and thinly sliced
3 bunches green onions
1 lb bacon, fried,drained,and crumbled
10 ounces frozen peas (thawed)
1 tablespoon sugar
salt and pepper
1 cup swiss cheese or 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
1 1/2 cups fat free sour cream
1 1/2 cups low-fat mayonnaise
3 stalks celery, chopped (optional)
olive, sliced (optional)
chopped ham (optional)
specialty lettuce (optional)
cherry tomatoes (optional)

Steps:

  • Also need 1 beautiful glass bowl, preferably with straight sides.
  • Tear the lettuce into bite sized pieces and put 1/2 the lettuce in the bowl, spreading evenly.
  • Clean the spinach, remove stems, and tear in bite sized pieces.
  • Spread 1/2 the spinach in over the lettuce.
  • Spread 1/2 of the eggs over the spinach.
  • Spread 1/2 of the bacon over the eggs.
  • Spread 1/2 of the peas over the bacon.
  • Sprinkle the peas with sugar, salt, and pepper.
  • Mix the sour cream and mayo.
  • Spread 1/2 the dressing over the salad.
  • Repeat the layers, ending with the second layer of salad dressing.
  • Top the dressing with the cheese.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and chill.
  • Before serving the salad, clean the green onions and slice the root off.
  • Cut all the onions the same length (about 2" taller than the bowl).
  • Unwrap the bowl, and imagine the bowl is the face of a clock.
  • Slide one green onion down between the salad and the bowl at each point of the clock, with the top of the onion sticking above the bowl.
  • If there are any green onions remaining after you've used 12, then slice the remaining onions and tops and sprinkle over the salad.
  • Use the optional ingredients for other layers, or to vary the salad the next time you make it.
  • This salad is so pretty, you may have to take the first serving: people won't want to'mess it up'.
